Aizen stuff was unnecessarily dragged out as well imo. All difficulties are simply solved by dad teachin ultimate Getsuga Mugetsu or whatever, leading Ichigo to meaninglessly oneshot all build-up of Aizen and its excitement.

I just finished the soul society arc in bleach. Idk if it goes to shit afterwards, but from what I've seen, the way Kubo wrote the bankai transformation for the zanpakuto utterly shits on the similar concept of devil fruit awakening in one piece.

Even before we saw the first bankai, it was already explained:

• what bankai is
• who has bankai
• how to achieve bankai

Not to mention when we actually see bankai in action, it is made undeniably clear when a character is using bankai and when they aren't.

Do you see the problem here? Loda utterly failed to do any of this shit despite having ample opportunities to do so. He never gave a solid explanation on what awakening is, he never stated who could have awakening, and he never explained how one is supposed to awaken.

The result is countless meaningless theoryposts on whether particular characters have awakening or what their awakening could be. I remember people even saying gear 4th was actually awakening all along in dressrosa.

Loda has a habit of mystery baiting to maintain audience engagement. In most cases, it works, but specifically in regards to battle related aspects, it just undermines the story. It creates needless confusion and ambiguity where none needs to exist and makes certain aspects of the story seem incoherent.

Why did Luffy, Law, and Kid just magically get awakening to beat the yonko? In bleach, we saw that Ichigo and Renji both trained for bankai in order to achieve it. Then they used it in battle. For one piece, Loda just pulled it out of thin air. Kid and Law were supposedly holding back awakening the entire time on the roof while zoro was breaking his bones and Luffy was getting KO'd fighting kaido. Not to mention gear 5 being a complete asspull that felt utterly undeserved.

Mysteries are not substance. In fact, they are the absence of substance. Oda made a decision to prioritize mysteries over substance and the result is that the vs Yonko saga suffered horribly due to it.

I feel like Bleach went downhill after Aizen and other then Ichigo other side characters were basically abandoned to fodder degree, though archer guy was good was he ishida. Fullbring arc was 100 times worse then WCI Sanji and only purpose was to emasulate ichigo, I am not talking about how Kubo just abandoned last arc in the middle. I wanted Ichigo end up with Nelliel but he got together with that annoying Orihime though i have to give it to Kubo he made Orihime 100 times more beautiful actually ichigo got more handsome too.

Bankai are cool but you’re gonna see them vary wildly from effective to what does it even do to why didn’t Kubo show this bankai. It’s by no means perfect.

Oda's problem with awakening is that he really never explain about awakening enough, Doffy little give us informations and after that we never really got much informations aside of Kaido where he little give us more details...
Wish to learn more about awakening, how someone can awake it, what he need to do, two Yonkou crews and we just got one awakened user. In Bleach we see more details about Bankai and also see the hard training to gain it.

Bankai was supposed to only be achievable by Captain level Shinigami after a decade of training, and countless more years to master it and Ichigo learned and mastered it in 3 days, after being a Soul Reaper for like 2 days, because Kisuke conveniently created a cheat code to unlock it.

Yet, Luffy learning awakening after having his Devil Fruit for over 10 years and pushing it to it's utmost limits is an ass pull? Gtfo....

Bro, the Soul Society Rescue arc/saga was peak Bleach. Like, nothing in the series that followed ever came close to what Kubo accomplished there.

You must have talked with some friends about Bleach judging from your "idk if it goes to **** afterwards" comment - because honestly, that is bang-on. That is exactly how it is.

I took up Bleach with my friends when I was teenager, as I recall it was when they were still working on that Baunto filler arc. The first 3 seasons will always hold a special place in my Anime heart.

Soul society is top 5 best shonen arcs EVER, that was kubo at his PEAK.

Unfortunately everything goes to shit afterwards when he replays soul society step by step in hueco mundo without the political aspects that made the original one so interesting.

With that said, bleach's power system one of the best, if not the best created.

If only kubo had oda's ability to tie in storylines without plotholes...

One piece have ZERO tension because we ALWAYS know luffy and his friends Will come out on top with no losses.

Meanwhile, in bleach we had at least the possibility of someone important dying.

One thing as far as deaths are concerned that I'll give to Bleach is that, at least, villains are killed off for good once they serve their purpose

But as far as good guys go, there isn't really that much tension, especially post Soul Society Arc. From the top of my head Yamamoto and Unohana die, Shinsui's captain friend (can't remember the name rn) and that's about it as far as important characters go. And it's stretching it to call Shinsui's friend that important to the overall story.

Ukitake was relevant, power-wose especially, only in the last arc. As far as the over reaching story goes, he's a footnote.

Their awakenings wouldn't change a shit. Kid had no good environment to use his awakening like he had inside the castle while Law awakening just make his sword longer. Nothing that he can't do with Teleport + Gamma Knife.

Even Luffy awakening is debatable to say he got stronger with it. Definetely not a lot since he was fighting as equals with Kaido while in base and even G4. That's how Oda fucked up his power system. Base Luffy made a better job than G4 Luffy and was fighting just equal as G5 Luffy if not better since Kaido was being the best on his fight against G5 till the very end.
