Character Discussion Best Era of Sanjis Character?

From Esat Blue to Thriller Bark, Sanji was at his best imo. I can't chose a favorite moment, the funny and the serious moment were all great.
Even post-TS Sanji is still a grear character. However, early sign of Oda degeneracy with Sanji began with TB.
The Invisibility DF nonsense he pulled was unnecesssary. Now we understand why Sanji was fascinated with Invisibility back then, with him being the heir to the stealth black and possibly wanting that power to gain Judge's favor before shit hit the fan in that front for him and later possibly wanting to become invisible to avoid Judge and his brothers' torment. Sadly Oda had to make it weird with his voyeurism fetish.
Them came the nonsense of The Okama Sanji bit with Evankov. Then post-TS came and we had the nose bleed nonsense in FI and later the gender swap shit with Nami, even though that wasn't as bad as the others and funny at times, Oda still made it extra weird at times.
Also a major part of Sanji is fighting prowess, but Oda relegated him to a single clash merchant post-TS, where he just clash with someone briefly, mostly with him being on the losing end, then he forgets about him and switches to other things.
Pre-TS we had a balanced Sanji, alternating between goofy and serious. With great fights and character moments.
Post-TS we had a Sanji that's heavily focused on the goof and less on the serious, with the goof bit being over the top cringe at times. And that's most fans gripe with him.
Sanji is easily the best character in the series. If Oda didn't project his degeneracy on him and we remove those Sanji embarrassing moment, he would have easily been the most popular too.
Things began to slowly get back on track to balanced Sanji since Zhou and WCI. Hopefully Elbaph will keep that trend going up and we get our best Sanji yet. Not holding too much faith on Oda though.

Sanji is explored & used extensively in Water 7 Saga, Oda showcasing a lot of aspects from his character :
His powerup in Enies Lobby is also meticulously developed, it is originated from his encounter against Aokiji's ice power (Long Ring Long Land arc), and taken inspiration from Wanze's spinning technique/friction (Water 7 arc), which result in Diable Jambe (Enies Lobby arc).

1. Baratie to WCI, emphasized in Enies Lobby : Kalifa scene tells us that Sanji won't ask for help.
2. Baratie to WCI, emphasized in Thriller Bark : Kuma scene tells us that Sanji feels he has low self worth, hence the sacrifice.
3. Baratie to Wano, emphasized dozens of times throughout the story : Sanji won't let women be in danger/puts them in harms way.
- The Change
1. In WCI, Luffy scene, he changes to be able to ask for help.
2. In WCI, Luffy scene, he realizes he is worthy.
3. In Wano, Robin scene, he is BOTH willing to ask for help, especially to women, & willing to put women in danger.

Sanji is explored & used extensively in Water 7 Saga, Oda showcasing a lot of aspects from his character :
- At the start he acts as Luffy's advisor.
- He also empathize with Usopp about being abandoned, hinting & setting up his past.
- He showcases his ability as a spy (Sea Train scenes)
- He shows his cooking skill for fighting (vs Wanze)
- Also showcase his decent swordsmanship (vs Wanze)
- We explored his incapability of harming female, at the same time a setup for 10+ years old character development (to Wano arc)
- He motivates Usopp & encourages him with a quote, making Usopp able to rescue Robin.
- He acts as a hero/savior (Gate of Justice), showcasing his intelligence.

@ZenZu your in the minority with that Wholecake island Take, and it really shows Diverse of a character Sanji is, There’s people who like Sanji purely because of his Cooking, there’s people who like Sanji because of his emotions , there’s people who like Sanji because he’s loves Women, there’s people like you who like Sanji only because he can be strong and badass, What’s clear here is that Nobody Likes Sanji for the Same reasons .

I don't care about the whole age deal, not with Bonney either, she's fully an adult when she ages up, that's only something that bothers internet teens, anyone who isn't chronically online doesn't care about these things. The reason I brought up Pudding's age is not because of it being a pedo thing, rather it is embarrassing for someone like Sanji to be letting a teenage girl do that to him. That is not who Sanji was, or ever has been at any point of the story. The worst thing about WCI was the fact that Sanji just magically forgot what the lengths the SH crew go for their crewmates, it's like Enies Lobby didn't happen. SH's waged war against the entire WG for a Robin against her own will. Sanji's actions and getting cucked by BM and Pudding, while keeping his captain who he damn well knows won't leave without him, in the dark, at that point of the story is inexcusable. Oda basically sacrificed Sanji for cheap drama.
I can get into a whole lot more, but don't have the energy in 2025 to go over the shitshow that was WCI. The only thing worse Oda ever wrote was Oden.
Sanji getting blackmailed about zeff is meh, but him wanting to save Germa 66 was a really odd choice to be honest. Iirc, they are kind of explicitly genocidal and while Sanji is obviously compassionate, he was never a bleeding heart. He didn´t want to save Smoker for example, and like the kids in PH either. Them being his family doesn´t really work either, since obviously he didn´t care about that.

Zenzu that wasn’t a unanimous take, you were just surrounding yourself with people of similar opinion creating the illusion that everyone felt the same way. For instance the US has 340 Million People but there’s 7 Billion People in the world…….Infact I’d argue Most People Like Sanji in Wholecake island for valid reasons, that arc has the lowest amount of Sanji Gags since The Water 7/Enies Lobby era. And that’s because the plot and stakes were so high.
Also we’re talking about a guy who wouldn’t hit Bon Clay because he changed his face to Nami, and this was the Alabasta Sanji you praise. Are you really still surprised after all these years, about the different ways that women can manipulate Sanji?
