The problem is, it's you who thinks he is a no name pirate.
Within the verse he is held in the same standards as Shiki (a Roger rival) and Silver Axe(Shiki rival).
It took YamiGura Teach + Kuzan + Law + Koby to deal with a deathbed Wang Zhi, but sure keep deluding yourself that he was no name fodder in his prime. If Rayleigh fights against Wang Zhi, it would be the biggest achievement of his career.

I mean not that I agree with that Ray will fight him but he has a rare point that zhi gets less credit he should cause of his design.
He smoked a other rocks pirate that had even support, master minded essentialy why God valley even happened got away with it for decades and even in his old age he wasn't challenged by the new Gen till BB came

We know that Teach/Law and Koby worked together at Rocky port, that does not mean they all needed to gang up on one guy. Koby became known as the hero for evacuating civilians, and at that point in the story was basically fodder, Law stole the hearts of random hundreds of pirates, and we have no idea that Kuzan was involved, but given the fact that the world didn't know what Kuzan was up to at the start of the timeskip(according to Jimbei) he probably wasn't involved.
Anyway, the idea that Rayleigh didn't get to save his *wife* when she was kidnapped and about to be made into a sex slave, when we know for a fact that they're together to this day is just.... idk if Agenda or retardation.

Look at the way Teach was talking with Law and Koby, it's clear they both were heavily involved with whatever happened against wang zhi. Kuzan had already teamed up with Teach by that point, but you're right I can't say for certain what type of involvement he had.

I only said he will take on Wang Zhi, probably at the ending part of GV incident and that ray will lose. He will save Shakky before that.
Also if wang zhi did kidnap shakky then this fight will definitely happen.

Kuzan teamed up with Teach 1 year ago, that does not mean he was at Rocky port(btw we have no idea when Rocky port happened) just like Kuzan wasn't involved in the Amazon lily incident. And again, we have no confirmation that Koby or Law fought Wang Zhi....

Ok, so as I said Kuzan's involvement is doubtful since the timelines don't match. Law is the mastermind of that incident, he's guaranteed to have major role in Wang zhi's fight.
