Gaban is way more impressive imo.

Better design, better introduction, a more engaging personality, a cooler fighting style...

There is nothing interesting, unique or cool about Rayleigh. He's, like, the most generic guy ever, and he has never made any scene more exciting with his presence, except for when he used conqueror's haki at the auction.

Ray is super likeable and there's really no matching the hype of being Roger's #2, but it does take away something from him when Gaban appears to be his equal and more fun.

If 1149 didn't double down on 1139 and show Gaban possessing Future Sight and CoC, there'd still be some daylight on Rayleigh at least being significantly stronger to off set how much more fun Gaban is.

Rayleigh just
Doesn't really have anything about him that stands out, to me. I find Shakky more interesting and cool, and she hasn't even done anything.

Rayleigh's character is WAY too reliant on his status as the right hand of Roger, and it doesn't feel like there's all that much going for him outside of that.

That's a stretch. The general fandom has always considered Sanji to be very close in strength to Zoro. It's just this site that got taken out of the infinite tsukuyomi.

No, that's not the case at all. The people who think that Sanji and Zoro are close continue to think so and the people who think otherwise haven't changed their minds since their opinion was never based in them honestly analyzing the story and coming to that conclusion. Sanji and Zoro being relative wasn't revealed in chapter 1149, it's been the case since Little Garden and solidified since Enies Lobby. Nothing actually changed for the most part, it's just another pile of evidence atop a mountain proving Zoro~Sanji that the same people that have always denied it will continue to deny. What actually changed is peoples opinions on Sanjis future potential power ups, haki wise.

It’s almost as if Sanji fans were crying out that Gaban would be the left hand since since his name was revealed only for it to be knocked back and gaslit into thinking that he wouldn’t be as relevant as Rayleigh. Oda used that phrase to show that Sanji fans were right that Gaban would be just as important as Rayleigh, also dude has way better clout than Rayleigh. He stayed in the new world, married a giant, and is revered as a mighty unmatched figure in the mightiest country. Bro didn’t need Rayleigh for anything.

Gaban got the comparison checks from all relevant characters. Roger crew, Yonko, strongest nation in the world. He passed vibe check

He might be the most gassed up old legend even more than Garp due to his FS and Ray using HIS strength as a standard for FS users
