Sukuna had multiple times during the Gojo fight to fire off the arrow, especially when Gojo was setting up the unrestricted Hollow Purple. It had to be that it can’t reach him through his Limitless which is the main reason Sukuna needed Mahoraga. Also he needed to seal it via binding vow to empower everything else about his domain to stay ahead of Gojo in the DE clashes.

What that means is that Sukuna willingly took actions that made Furnace unusable in the early fight, which goes perfectly hand to hand with what I've been saying for months now: he limited his actions by gambling on a plan to adapt to infinity and gain something out of the fight, which doesn't mean he would have been a defenseless little girl if he didn't have Ten Shadows, he would have just fought differently.
