Break Week Can Oda afford to pull the plug?

Oda estimated 5 years, but let's say that it's 7-8 because he has much left.

But can he afford to just end op? or he created a super popular monster like Dragonball that will never end, he can't control, it will keep going like dragonball, even if as spin ofs. like after raftel and marineford final , SHs adventures in space. and even if oda will exit at some point, others will take over.

I think he can afford to end after his story is told. He said himself he 100% wanted to draw a Mecha manga after one piece is over

That jas high chances to happen actually, like Toriama milked Dragonball up to this day it could very well be the same for Oda. Will that still be One piece? Will I consider it as One piece? For sure nope if Oda, or some other people for him most likely, bring in aliens, space, dimebsions etc.

Just as Dragonball: sayajin and Namek saga were the epitome, Dragonball was meant to end with Namke, yet it selled so Cell saga, drop in quality, Majin bu saga another drop and then GT. And after that Super who is on the same level (not that I bother watching it).

My hope is that since One piece is way more polished Oda or who for him will try to keep the quality high (OP is the only one from the HST who kept his quality and also the one who went on for longer) so instead of space, aliens and all that crap we can have new generations (inherited will) or spin offs as side series with a good plot.

Nah supernova would give us pre timeskip vibes and I’m after that more than dumb old gen legends.

The difference is, Toriyama intended to end the series with Frieza and was essentially begged to not stop.

Oda has a physical drive to see this to completion. Hence why when 5 years passes (and it will), he won't just "pull the plug". He'd be that much closer to the end. Many mangaka don't have endings planned so they can just end it whenever or half assed. With OP, the ending is virtually the biggest part of the series

Edit: like, imagine writing a story for 25+ years setting up the final war, villains, factions and mysteries and just barely giving enough time for it. This is reason #1 why I dont see OP ending in 5 years. We aren't even at that point where the War will start, even post-Wano. Signs of it may come about, but shit needs to escalate and get Luffy to realistically participate

One Piece doesn't belong to Oda as much as it'd seem. Even if he disassociates from the project, if it's juicy enough to be continued then other people will take over.

I think the main story will be done fully and completely, even if that takes another 10 years. Supplemental material is already been a thing, like the Ace/Law novels and manga. That will continue for years, likely without Oda.


Maybe sometime later he draws short stories in the OP world depicting some important locations or plot moments that help characterize the world or supports the main plot a bit more. For example, id love to see a 5-10 chapter manga about what CP-9 did during the timeskip to become CP-0, if its never fully explained. Or a few chapters dedicated to Buggy. Things like that. But I'd probably only read Oda's work, personally.
