Because Vengeance isn’t a major theme in OP which is why I can’t see one of Luffys ultimate fights being a fight for vengeance.

Luffys set up to be a great emancipator; fighting Sakazuki just doesn’t mesh with that theme because Sakazuki doesn’t stand for tyranny.
Luffy's never been anti-vengeance though. It's not a theme in any particular way but it's also not something Oda writes against.

Sakazuki's narrative/thematic conflict is with Luffy not Sabo
Thematic is useless. We've seen fights that seem to happen but never happened and fight we thought would never happen happen.

Sabo's end game opponent isn't the Fleet Admiral
Who are we to know who's enemy would be anyone's endgame. If Sabo's goal is to demolish the CD system then we already have seen goals that someone else wanted but Luffy did.

Law wanted to defeat Doffy but Luffy did.

Vivi wanted to defeat Crocodile but Luffy did.

Scabbards wanted to defeat Kaido but Luffy did.

I could go on but it is almost in every arc

The Mera conquering the Magu is implausible in story
Making Sabo the underdog

The Strawhats would be the ones to defeat the Marines
Says who? What would be accomplish in this?

I honestly don't see anyway Akainu would fight Luffy. Marines won't be defeated in a separate arc nor they will overtake WG.

Luffy would be the one who would change the OP world. Defeating Akainu in final war is not a world changing event.

HMMMM... man the amount of disingenuousness shown in some of the posts is pretty insane and really showcasing an insane case of what would be called selective reading.

The fight is entirely based on the premise that Sabo will defeat Sakazuki to avenge Ace and we'll see the Mera triumph over the Magu but:
Lol?????? My dude that's literally the No.1 reason Luffy vs Akainu has been pushed. You're applying the biggest Luffy vs Akainu reason that people wanted to see Luffy come and whoop Akainu's ass to now Sabo fans. No supporter of this fight wants it to happen for revenge reason, it's literally the dumbest reason to waste Akainu on. So you're wrong there.

1st. Sakazuki's narrative/thematic conflict is with Luffy not Sabo
  • Sakazuki gave Luffy his second ever scar
  • A scar that aches when Luffy hears his name being called
  • Luffy witnessed Sakazuki kill his brother in front of him
  • Said brother that died trying to protect him
  • If anyone should be avenging Ace, it's Luffy, the person Ace died to save.
You're completely wrong. I don't like telling folks they're wrong when it comes to preference of their predicted fight. However, in this reasoning of yours, you're completely wrong.

1st. Not a narrative/ thematic reason for the fight to happen.
2nd. Yup, that's not really a narrative/thematic reason.
3rd. Yes, possible motivation for Luffy, but not exactly a narrative/thematic conflict.
4th. Yup, possible possible motivation for Luffy, but not exactly a narrative/thematic conflict.
5th. Nope, but again not a thematic/narrative conflict.

Thank you for proving my point off the very bat. Even though you called it a narrative/thematic conflict... you literally for your 1st reason used the very same reason you complained the Sabo vs Akainu is based on... REVENGE. That is not a narrative/thematic conflict between two characters. That's simply a possible motivation for 1 character, while the other could give a dog's ass.

When it comes to actual narrative/thematic conflict, aka where the storylines and the themes of two characters collide... Dragon, Fujitora, and Sabo are all above Luffy by a good margin. Fujitora in particular is the direct thematic conflict if anything, bigger than the other thematic conflict Kuzan before him.

"Freest man" is not the thematic conflict to "Thorough Justice" or "Absolute Justice".

Sabo's end game opponent isn't the Fleet Admiral
  • The enemies of the Revolutionary Army are the Tenryuubito not Marine HQ
  • The latest chapter introduced the Holy Knights and set them up as the main opponents of the Revolutionary Army
  • Sabo in particular was said to be their main target
Here we go again, we're back to the CP0 non-sense. First it was RA & Sabo's main opponent being the CP0 when Dragon told em to be cautious about them. And now it's the Holy Knights, when Dragon mentions them. I have 0 idea on what the fandom's obsessions is with trying to make the Marines be pirate exclusive opponents...but you're factually wrong.

- Factually, taking on the Celestial Dragons is not just taking on the Holy Knights, but the CP0 +.... who? Marine HQ. Because why? It's literally the CD's ARMY.
- So we had Sabo vs Marines, RA commanders vs two admirals.. Yup doesn't seem like any marine conflict with the RA.
- At the sametime as Luffy is announced as an Emperor of the sea. We get a conversation between 3 marine top tiers, Akainu/Kizaru/Tensei... and who's the primary focus? Sabo. With Tensei literally telling Akainu yo we can't let them keep running unchecked.
- In the very chapter Oda spends pages on pages with 3 marine top dogs discussing the Revolutionary Army... this is the single panel dedicated to the man who you're talking about.
- Akainu here isn't referring to just pirates, lol. He's referring to the RA + pirates.

- Holy Knights is a specialized group, with 9 people. That's not the Revolutionary ARMY's opponent.
- The Revolutionary ARMY has the same position at the top of their army as the World Government does at the top of their military.

And who're the top dogs under Kong & Dragon? Akainu & Sabo...

Notice how the Holy Knights vs Sabo conflict is being brought up WAY BEFORE the Final War, with 9 individuals who's highest priority will be Sabo... so Dragon wants Sabo to be careful about that when doing the missions he'll be assigned to until they do a proper launch.

So yea.... Marine HQ is a BIG ENEMY of the Revolutionaries... why? Cause they're owned by the Celestial Dragons just like the Holy Knights are.

The Mera conquering the Magu is implausible in story
  • Sakazuki's magma is the directly superlative version of Ace's Mera
  • Mera conquering the Magu makes as much sense as Monet's snow conquering Kuzan's chill

Echiiro Oda after stating Magu Magu > Mera Mera, goes out of his way to point out no ability alone guarantees a victory in combat. In particularly when Sabo's main focus of style is not the mera mera, but haki. You think Oda just coincidently bothered introduced Sabo with a Haki/Rokushiki-esque based combat style before giving him the mera mera? Nope. Ace on the other hand was a full on mera mera based fighter.

The Strawhats would be the ones to defeat the Marines
  • The Marines are a major antagonistic force present since the beginning of the story and would naturally be defeated by the Strawhats
  • As the Captain of the Strawhats Luffy will defeat the leader of the Marines
    • Note that despite Law's much greater thematic conflict with Doflamingo, at the end of the day it was Luffy that defeated Doflamingo
    • Without fail, every major antagonist is defeated by Luffy, even if Sabo had a stronger narrative to face Sakazuki (he does not) it would ultimately be Luffy that defeats him
    • Sakazuki is simply too important an antagonist to be defeated by the likes of Sabo
  • The other Admirals (Borsalino, Issho and Aramaki) may be defeated by Luffy's top commanders
    • If Borsalino is not first bested in Egghead
Marines are too big for 1 singular group to defeat on their own, it will be a collective effort.

- Specific characters in the Marines are a major antagonistic force since the beginning. And do you know who saved Luffy's ass from going to Impel Down by hands of the Marines? A revolutionary.. Dragon's first character interaction was with who? A Marine. HMMMMMMMM coooooking.
- They are a major, but not THE major. They are a pawn to a bigger antagonist... you know the mfs that Nika & Joyboy would be going against.
- Sakazuki isn't the major antagonist for that faction
- Sabo right now is a bigger entity than Luffy, i'm not exactly sure why you're acting as if Sabo isn't a major protagonistic force in the manga.
- I mean bro that's cool if that's what you want

But see this isn't a concrete reason, it's just the typical fanbase theory of SHPs vs Marine HQ. Just as the whole SHPs vs Zodiac etc etc.

Reality is, Luffy is joyboy and Nika. Nika's enemies were the ones who enslaved people. Joyboy's enemies were the 20 Kingdoms... aka it ain't the Marines. So idk why you'd even bring up the CD being main enemies for the RA, but then ignore them for Luffy, when his entire character's end goal is gonna focused on overthrowing the CD.

Even before the introduction of the Holy Knights, the argument was never credible (#1 or #4 alone are sufficient to decisively invalidate it), but right now, the argument is especially ridiculous.
Bro just say you don't want it to happen. Saying the argument for Sabo is ridiculous is just being ridiculous yourself.

Being frank, the only legs that argument stands on are the desperate plea of powerscalers who don't want Luffy to fight an Admiral after defeating the Emperors. And that's quite sad. A significant contingent of this fanbase is so cucked by powerscaling fantasies they can't read the story correctly.
You again just listed the main motivation behind why people get so insecure about anything but Luffy vs Akainu happening.

Because y'all would literally bash Akainu if he fought somebody else other than Luffy, saying he's not Yonko built like that inferior to Kaido... so the mfs who support Akainu in powerscaling run this narrative of Luffy vs Akainu to prove Akainu is the top dog.

Akainu having a vendetta against dragon.
More reason for Sakazuki to target Dragon's son (as he did at Marineford).

I still can’t see luffy fighting someone strictly for vengeance especially now that luffys stated to be stronger the more he laughs, that kind of power doesn’t mesh well with a vengeance story.
As stated earlier, Sakazuki wants to kill Luffy and he already tried to do so at Marineford; he may try again.

Furthermore, being the Fleet Admiral already places him in opposition to the Pirate King, whether Luffy desires revenge or not.

Honestly I think the main narrative push for Sabo vs Akainu is Sabo inheriting aces will
Sabo's business is with the Tenryuubito and their Holy Knights.

Aokiji, whether you like it or not, is just a mere subordinate.
As is Mihawk.

Fact of the matter is, Sakazuki's job is to kill pirates. It's not his fault he had to do his job and carry out an execution.
Ace died due to being too argumentative and going back to fight Saka after everyone told him not to fight him, just like he got captured by fighting BB.
It was never Luffy's fault for Ace's death. So yes, while he can be angry at Sakazuki for killing Ace, he should be even angrier at his real opponent: Blackbeard.
Not only was he the main reason for Ace getting captured and executed in the first place, but he finished Sickbeard and beat most of his crew afterwards.
There's also just more reason for him to fight BB in the first place.
Roger went his whole life without actually defeating the Marines, as it wasn't beneficial for him anyway.
Even Primebeard didn't fight the Marines went they sent a battleship after him, reason being that one:
He isn't obligated to
Two: They can just keep sending people and it's ultimately a pointless fight anyway ( his goal isn't to fight hordes of Marines and take them down, it's to have a family and do pirate shit )
Meanwhile Roger won against Shiki, Chinjao was taken out of the race forcefully by Garp, etc
Luffy's goals don't include taking down Sakazuki. Taking down BB is necessary to become the PK and stay the PK.
So it's more likely Sabo will fight Sakazuki.

Luffy will fight both, the circumstances can't be known but the idea that Luffy won't fight the person who almost destroyed his will is insane. No antagonist in the series has had that much impact on Luffy's growth and development as a person.
No one broke Luffy’s will he just realized that he was too weak, that's what jinbe and luffy himself point out.

Luffy's descent into hell started at Shabondy and continued impel down to Marineford.

Akainu was Teased destroying Ohara Ship (Even though it carried Children)
He was then Fully Introduced during Ace's Execution War
He then Attacked Luffy & ended up killing Ace
He then kept chasing Luffy
He then got interrupted by Koby, once He tried to kill him, Shanks intervened
After that He was seen going to retrieve Bonney who clearly Hates him
Post-TS He was teased when He sent Fujitora to investigate Law/Luffy Alliance
After Wano Raid, Ryokugyu was Introduced who wanted to please Akainu by capturing Supernova
And finally, He was shown reacting to Flame Emperor News & vowing to stop all this madness

Akainu is not Luffy's Enemy nor is He Sabo's Enemy, He is Enemy of entire New Generation
We literally seen his Stance with Ohara Kids, Ace, Luffy, Koby, Bonney, Law, Sabo .. etc

Akainu represents Biggest Opposer of New Generation, He is a Volcano, his Justice will ultimately lead to him wanting to Destroy The World
He is literally Canon Version of Zephyr, just with different Backstory

Akainu is gonna be Defeated by neither Luffy or Sabo, He is gonna be Defeated by his Opposite Shanks
But after that Defeat, He will try to destroy Grand Line or Part of the World (Where Final War is happening) using Volcanos
(As Teased during Start of Fishmen Island)

He is basically Surtr & Elbaf Kingdom know about this Prophecy

I think Sabo vs Akainu comes from those who wished Shiryu vs Mihawk. In both cases they want second strongest from one team to destroy another one from level or levels above. Both matchups haven't ever had any real plot ties between opponents but it could not stop people dream about Mihawk/Akainu defeat.
