Case 1:
There’s is literally an entire chapter of Kidd complaining about being “useless” before using his awakening.

There’s a 99% chance that Oda and/or his editors gauged that fans were underwhelmed/complaining about Kidd’s performance on the rooftop before storyboarding the chapter.

His dialogue is literally reflective of and referencing fan sentiment.

Case 2:
Marco frequently wonders why he’s in Wano and what his role will be both when fighting against Big Mom and on the live floor.

Both the fandom (and maybe even Oda himself) had no idea why the hell Marco was in the arc from a narrative standpoint.

Marco’s dialogue is a subtle reference to Oda’s own uncertainty towards the character’s role in the arc.

Kidd was probably realizing how useless he is really.
And Marco's so far was to help Chopper with the cure, carry Zoro to the Rooftop, and hold both Queen and King for the new King and Queer to arrive.

You are mixing things up.

Kid being useless is case 1.

Marco being at Wano(not useless) is case 2.

I agree that Oda doesn't know what he is doing with both but he is not aware of what fans think.
Oda said himself that he avoid seeing his fans predictions and etc because they are much better writters than himself. He used other words but I understood that way.

Keep in mind it’s not just Oda we’re discussing.

I feel like it’s highly probably that at least one of his editors is on social media

But don’t you think given what we’ve seen from Marco (he didn’t really do anything non-fillers) in conjunction with his frequent “why am I here” moment seems a little on the nose?
Nah, to me it always seemed to be that he was there to "assist" the new gen in succeeding, but it primarily was always up to them. He is used everywhere he was needed:

- Delaying Queen's Oni virus
- Delaying Queen and King from taking over the floor
- Helping Zoro have enough time to get back on his feet
- Now potentially stopping the Kazenbo

I'd say Oda has had far less direction with someone like Denjiro, who has been missing for 30 chapters now.

But the Oni Virus as a whole isn’t really all that necessary to the narrative (it’s kinda just there for Chopper to do something) and you could argue that stalling King and Queen wasn’t really necessary either since Oda could easily have found other ways to do it.

I don't think this has anything to do with the fan sentiment, although I'm sure the editors at least keep up with that to make sure sales stay high.

Oda made Kid underwhelming on the rooftop by waiting until 1030 to introduce his awakening, the only way in which Kid can deal serious damage to the yonko. Oda didn't want Kid and Law going all out on the rooftop, as that would take the spotlight away from Luffy and Zoro, who Oda intended to shine on the roof. So in order to justify Kid and Law not going all out on the roof, he needed to give their awakenings a big side effect that would justify Kid and Law not using them immediately.

Also if you are referring to 1029, Kid being called useless had nothing to do with his strength. He was nerfed and Law and BM didn't understand what was going on. I highly doubt their dialogue was supposed to reflect fan sentiment.

Yeah I'm fairly confident Oda is a man of good heart who doesn't just look at his profits. Actually sometimes he made unpopular decisions too.

Two pieces of dialogue and a heavy dose of conjecture confirm Oda and his editors care what the fandom thinks, meanwhile everything else that has happened in the last four arcs would indicate otherwise :rolaugh:
Additionally, I find it hard to believe that the Japanese fan community shares the exact same sentiments or focuses on the same things as the English-speaking community. And that in the event Oda/his editors would actually have the energy to engage with fan conjecture, it would be with the latter group's.

I think Oda listens to Fan arguments and writes things addressing fan arguments but it’s none of these examples you’ve given

It’s Sanji’s chivalry shit with the Robin situation… Oda has Robin say that it’s good that Sanji is being stupid and sexist because now she can step up because for whatever reason she was under the idea that people think she’s useless outside reading Poneglyphs… Like go back to that chapter and see what Robin is saying… It’s fuckin random as hell… She just introduces this idea that it’s a big deal to her that Sanji trusts her to defeat Black Maria like this has been some kind of long running character arc for her or something… Suddenly there’s this idea that she’s insecure about her fighting ability and it’s SUCHHHHHH A GOOOOODDDD THING that Sanji is a sexist that now she can step up and fight women for sanji

it’s so blatantly Oda just addressing this stupid gag and saying that it’s actually good now because the women wouldn’t be able to fight anyone if Sanji was actually beating up the women combatants… Do you see readers? If the boys weren’t going easy if the female villains, who would the female straws hats fight????? Do you see readers?

I AM ODA AND I APPROVE THIS SEXISM

God I was just dying reading that chapter… Like fuck you oda
