Konohamaru wanted to become a Hokage, and started training for Ninjutsu seriously after Naruto inspired him.

Hell, he started learning Rasengan when he was young

And by the time post-skip rolled up, Konohamaru was competent enough to fight a Pain.

Konohamaru promised to rival Naruto far more than Coby to Luffy, but ultimately just like Coby, his character is that of an admirer who will usher next generation in after Luffy is done.

Feel free to die on your ass hill, though. The side character fodder fanboy admirer who is far, far weaker than Jinbe will surpass the protagonist he looks up to and says it's impossible to even follow in his footsteps.

Difference is Mihawk is an obstacle, a goal for Zoro to surpass.
Zoro is not and will never be Mihawk's "rival", he'll surpass him.

Zoro did not see news about Mihawk in the newspaper and cry out of happiness.
Zoro did not join a fanclub with princesses that talk about Mihawk.

You need serious levels of copium to argue that Koby is the Marine eqt of Kid & not the Marine eqt of Bartolomeo, let alone compare the Luffy-Koby dynamic I'm talking about to Mihawk-Zoro lol.

Of course that's where his story starts. Anyways, I think it's safe to say we can't go against the narrator, luffy/koby destiny.

What he's done post-ts is being hyped by bb himself, something mere commanders like shiryu couldn't get from current bb.

Being connected to Luffy by destiny doesn't entail great strength EoS.

Was still not relevant power level in the grand scheme of things in shuppuden at all. Not the same gen at all with Naruto :

Compare that with Coby story :

- put himself in front of Akainu and help stopping Marineford war
- awoke haki at that time
- trained by Garp
- captain of the marine HQ
- Rocky port incident : helped BB somewhat and was labeled a hero. Law was also part of that fight. And it was a big deal
- a sword member, relevant secret organisation
- was here to fight Boa
- captured by BB and talked in the news
- is sure to be a top tier at the end of the story

Coby is really not a Konohamaru at all, in power, importance, relevance etc
