Controversial Devil's advocate: Why Imu didn’t showed up at Egghead?

#1
Elbaph showed us that Imu from very far distance can take over the body of Gunko, one loyal Holy Knight.

Now at the flashback we saw how he took over Saturn as well. One loyal Gorosei.

But then why he didn't took over none of the 5 Gorosei back at Egghead?

Of course the most obvious answer would be that Oda didn't thought about such power back then but that alone can't be enough. We have to figure a reason inside the world of One Piece.

For starters I don't even think that right now Imu was necessary to show up at Elbaph. He could have asked Shamrock to return there. They could have summoned Gorosei (I think). And the same could have been done at God Valley. So I don't think Imu only shows up in situations where the rest of Holy Knights or Gorosei can't handle.

We also know that Saturn got killed after the Egghead incident. Is not like the Gorosei have failed for the first time so I don't think this would be enough reason even for a tyrant like Imu to kill him.

The best explanation I came up with was that Imu needs a loyal servant to take over his body.

Back at God Valley it was Saturn.

Now at Elbaph it was Gunko.

Back at Egghead Imu tried to take over Saturn but couldn't. This means that Saturn right there wasn't as loyal as he was back at God Valley and that's why Imu killed him afterwards.

After all not only Saturn was there but all 5 Gorosei failed at that mission. So no reason only for Saturn to be killed.

I’ve been thinking about this and I’ve come to a few possible conclusions

1. Like you said, Oda forgot or didn’t think about it

2. Imu is legitimately terrified of Joyboy and the Nika fruit and wants to stay as far away from it as humanly possible. Iirc Imu doesn’t actually know the Strawhats are in Elbaf

The Holy Knights only just realized that too

3. There’s some sort of condition that needs to be met (only Gunko and previously Saturn meet the requirements)

4. Only Gunko is capable of true possession. A lot of people have noted that Imu almost looks like a parasite when they take over Saturn’s body but look like they’ve legitimately fused with Gunko. Not to mention Gunko also has really weird eyes that could have something to do with that

Yeah it’s weird he chose to show up with the weaker group of subordinates, the only thing I could say is maybe he trusted the five elders to get it done because he knows how strong they are. To be fair they would have succeeded but nobody accounted for a giant piece of ancient kingdom technology running around with Joyboy’s haki bomb inside of him.

I believe next chapter will see the same traits we saw at Gunko in Saturn. This chapter showed only the silhouette. All dark and stuff. Like we always see Imu.

Because if Imu and the Gorosei showed up in Egghead, the SHs would have died.

Conveniently now Imu is only showing up while there is a crisis in Mariejois that will probably end up holding him back somehow.

Same reason the 5 bums didn't immediately kill Luffy after Alabasta, plot :kayneshrug:

Hmmmmmm. Someone beat Arlong. Who might that kid be that calls himself Monkey D Luffy and shouts Gomu Gomu no all over the place??? Let's just give him some 30 Mio bounty and wait a couple years to see what happens :Think::Think:
They only found out by that during Wano

Lol how a starving crisis would hold back Imu?

Gorosei barely were a threat to Strawhats. I don't think Imu would make much difference. We yet to see how powerful he is though.

I think it's actually pretty simple. Imu wasn't paying attention to Egghead until Vegapunk's message started.

When you think about it, all Saturn and CP0 had to do on Egghead was secure one old man, and a device. It really shouldn't have turned into the chaotic mess that it did. There weren't any Celestial Dragons or anyone Imu really wanted to protect on the island, so Imu was likely off enjoying the Butterfly Garden. I think Imu either just trusted Saturn to deal with it, or just wasn't paying attention at the moment. Then Vegapunk's message started, and suddenly everything happening on Egghead becomes VERY public. Then Imu felt that Haki Knot go off, and suddenly Imu is VERY invested in the current state of things. The Gorosei might not have even "told" Imu that they were joining Saturn on Egghead until after they already did it, since events were moving so fast. Imu was likely left in the dark for the majority of Egghead. Imu probably didn't think their go-to guys would bungle things THIS badly.

On God Valley, it's pretty likely that Imu was already watching the "Games". It's a big event for the Celestial Dragons, and Gunko's there. So, it's pretty likely Imu was already watching the Celestial Dragons "play". Then when things went wrong, Imu intervened in order to protect the Celestial Dragons. Imu made a move, because Imu was already paying attention to what was going on.

On Elbaph, Imu's getting involved because Imu's suddenly aware that things are starting to move and change in the world. And Imu's getting directly involved to stop the rise of Nika. Also...I think it's entirely possible that Imu is actually Mosa, Loki's friend. So, again, Imu is likely already paying attention to the situation as it's unfolds. So, when something starts to go wrong, Imu is already aware of it, and is deciding to take direct action. Elbaph is important to the World Government's future plans for preparing for the Final War. So, Imu's making sure everything goes to plan, personally.

Imu likely isn't omniscient. Imu likely needs to be paying attention and actually "watching" things in order to know what's going on. So, on Egghead, Imu was just on autopilot. Joyboy's Haki Knot is what jolted Imu into a more direct role. Imu getting involved seems to be basically "the nuclear option". So, it seems like Imu was holding themselves back from involving themselves until it seemed absolutely necessary.

Currently, probably nobody in the world knows about imu, other than some high ranked marines like garp or admirals. So i can understand him not showing himself in egghead.

And in god valley, he had a personal beef with rocks, so he took over one of his vassell, to confront him once again. thats my point of view.

I cannot find any logical reason for imu to show up in Elbaf. Like you said, he could have sent the gorosei, or shamrock.

Vegapunk was Dead they had his clone and the lab to recreate mother flame, as far as they knew they won the battle, they just didn't know JB's haki was sitting under their nose about to be unleashed and after that Imu was too shocked to do something ( i can assume that's not a feeling he gets to experience every day ) if it wasn't for JB's unexpected haki the elders would've jumped and ended them

Well things have escalated quite a bit after Egghead in the " world " so it's natural he wants to take control of it as fast as possible and have Elbaf by his side to bring back some order, he himself said why he showed up, they were just taking too long

it's possible that Gunko is the only HK/Gorosei that Imu can possess fully

it may be that he's actually on top of Saturn at GV inperson, and got teleported (albeit it would be odd without the circle). or it's a parasite thing.

maybe when possessing Gunko Imu can use his own powers, but when "parasiting" Gorosei he just enhances their powers?

Then you will tell me that Imu didn't acknowledge 4 Gorosei disappearing from Mariejois?

Imu didn't seem as bothered by Vegapunk's message, given his calm reaction. Unlike in Elbaf, where the stakes were higher (Marijoa in flames + conquering Elbaf as a key factor in conquering the world). Likewise, God Valley was at risk of unfolding larger incidents.

But surely, plot is always an argument, because Imu can spawn for every small issue.

One thing I was thinking about is that Joy Boy could've been a Davy, maybe even Davy D. Jones himself. The WG is putting the Davy Clan in a pedestal like we've never seen before. I mean, they got a D. like Garp in the marines, and also Dragon at some point and Saul too, so they don't really worry that much about all D. families... as for the Davy Clan, they're treated like Buccaneers or Lunarians, they have a target over their heads just for existing.

All things considered, the Egghead Incident and the God Valley Incident had two different weights: the Egghead's situation was dire, but the WG had a lot of forces there already (1 admiral, 5 gorosei and a whole fleet of ships) against just 1 neophyte yonko, so Imu probably thought that it was overkill already. On the other hand, GV was on a whole different level: we had Xebec, Roger, Whitebeard, et al., plus a lot of Davy Clan members (even if they weren't that much of a threat, they apparently shouldn't be allowed to even exist), so, if my hyphotesis is true, it was probably the most dangerous situation for the WG since the Void Century.
