I believe he somehow knew about the flood that's why he took over, it's protected by mountains on both sides, and is high above the 200 meters vp predicted

Since King is part of Lunarian race, like Kuma he might've inherited some stories from ancient times about Joy Boy probably about his return and he might have told Kaido about it since he seemed invincible.

It’s simpler than that. Wano was the one place the WG tried to take over and failed throughout history due to the Samurai, its resources, and closed borders. Kaidou wanted to wage war openly with the WG, making Wano and excellent stronghold for him to establish and build up his resources.

The only issue i have with that is that the WG doesn't attack emperors since they are " openly " trying to keep the balance they want to avoid conflict with them as much as possible, and the Yonkos know that cuz they're aware of the political situation in the world, take BM for example she left her territory ( with a Road Poneglyph ) to come to Wano just to kill Luffy she knew the WG at least wouldn't try something funny and WCI is not Wano......so i don't think Kaido chosing Wano as his territory was just to have an easier place to defend

If he had known about Pluton and it being hidden somewhere in Wano, I don't doubt that he would have done everything to get his hands on it, having hundreds of thousands of Wano people search and excavate the earth beneath Wano under the supervision of his crew to find it.
