"—often used in contexts that suggest someone's expressed beliefs about such matters are not backed with genuine concern or action"

I'm not interested in that kind of debate, either, they're tiring. I'm aware of the original meaning of the word, but it changed a lot over the years, which is more the meaning I assume the original poster was going for.

I will add some recent context. Recently, especially on Reddit to be fair,i saw many and many posts complaining about Gunko bare legs, and even posting edits of her with pants. There were like hundreds of these kind of posts. But at the same time,i saw many posts about bashing Usopp because he is phisically weak etc.so i get the disappointment because he is not doing anything in Elbaph so far,but i had the impression those people were hating on Usopp just because Usopp Is the way he is,so maybe its an example of toxic masculinity? I dont know, its just something maybe to decide.

Franky wearing panties = Empowerment.
Gunko wearing panties = Broke Ass Nigg.

But to be fair, they're just trolling and they edited Shamrock with panties too.

Was this on r/Piratefolk by any chance?

I personally think most fans are “woke” in this sense and are also pretty hypocritical about things when it comes to how characters act. I watched this video explaining Zoro and who he is past his strength and how he views himself, his goals, etc. but when it comes to Sanji and Usopp they’re a lot more different to explain in how they think. Usopp grew up in constant safety he doesn’t grasp his fear properly so he doesn’t end up doing much, Sanji never had someone to love him properly besides his sister and even then we don’t know if he thinks she actually cares for him, I don’t even think he knew how old Pudding was. As for the sexilzation of minors and other characters, it’s not okay morally but we need to take into consideration of the laws in Japan as well as the ones in the world of One Piece, this doesn’t defend Oda but we need to look at this in a way of different standards.

Oda doesn't strike me as "bigoted" (or whatever buzzword used currently) , if any he got criticized by the japanese far right a few years ago for making a joke about a soldier from the imperial japanese army in a volume opener.
But he's also a 50 yo japanese man, I always found it weird to judge his writing by the standards of tumblr.
The lack of emphasis on female fighters in One Piece isn't about some deep-rooted hatred of women as inferior beings, it's about old-fashioned chivalry. Sexist by modern standards maybe, but it never bothered me because women are factually weaker than men on average and while One Piece is obvious not a realistic world It's weird to give Oda shit because he doesn't desire to draw women getting beat up by men.
One Piece fanservice is overblown IMO, it mostly boils down to girls wearing skimpy outfits but so the men in the series. The only fanservice stuff I truly found stupid was Rebecca's outfit because the justification didn't make much sense considering how other gladiators were dressed.

Piratefolk just want to shit on anything, they're people that jumped on the One Piece train during covid and are upset because the series isn't like JJK lol

I don't think the problem is becoming a fan during Covid, because I became a fan during Covid and I'm much different from the morons in Piratefolk.
I think it's just a side effect you get with being an active member of a subreddit tbh.
Explain why its inherently immoral then. This should be fun.
Explain what's inherently immoral about an adult dating a minor?

I'm referring to the subset of fans that joined during this era because of the "hype" and are upset One Piece isn't just a bunch of cool haki fights with little story lol

Some people like to criticize Oda for his sexism, for the fanservice, and the writing of the character of Sanji, saying he liked Pudding who's a minor (for real world laws),etc.

But,at the same time, these same people, often criticize Usopp calling him a "bum" because he is a character who doesnt adhere to the "toxic masculinity" idea of what a male character should be,and often praise characters like Zoro only for physical strenght and not for other qualities.

Is this hypocritical? Do some people act woke, just for their agendas?

We should talk about how Worstgen is actually "Wokegen" next /s.

I agree with this take on Oda's views. It seems dubious to me that he would have any particular agenda for or against any group.

As for Piratefolk, I'll be fair to them and say they can be very funny when they're on a roll, and could once occasionally offer good criticism.

(Plus they love Kizaru there, so you know they've at least got good taste in that aspect)

But like any folk sub - any reddit sub in general really - the quality has heavily gone down as the userbase expanded.

It went from people who seemed to genuinely like OP despite its flaws to just.....empty hating and posturing.

Even at it's best I only really enjoyed it for the memes and humour, and that was back in 2022-ish.

And those have drastically faded. Nowadays it's just people looking for any reasons to get mad. Just a lot of empty negativity with nothing to balance it out.

I still visit the sub occasionally to see if it can make a comeback, but the last good joke run they had was the "Dereshishishi! I missed you too!" thing getting memed a bit when Saul came back.

And yeah what OP mentioned sounds on point for that sub, which is why I immediately thought of it.
