General & Others Does the Fandom even know what it wants

Even if Wano has been the most “traditional” arc format of the post-TS, it still has many of the same issues imo. Namely,
  1. Still less focus on most of SH crew compared to pre-TS, with side characters taking up too much panel time. I think someone compiled a list of panel time recently and Kiku was somehow in the top 10. Issue is that Oda did an absolutely horrendous job on the Scabbards (with few exceptions like Denjiro) who are the main connections to the Wano plotline. Oda spent like 100 chapters on the Wano flashback, mostly dedicated to hyping up Oden with the Scabbards coming off as generic accessory side characters to him with no agency. Alabasta was a Vivi-centric arc but she was a fully formed endearing character that didn’t seem to steal the spotlight from the SHs (i.e., Inu taking one of the main henchman fights). Usopp and Brook didn’t even get a solo fight this arc:few: I think Oda though readers would connect more with Scabbards (remember the story of the editors crying for the chapter when the Scabbards started fighting Kaido)
  2. Horrendous pacing, Luffy took like 30 chapters to get to the rooftop. 80% of which was filler because Oda wanted to make Chapter 1000 special. Too bad that made half the raid feel meaningless
In addition to the above, Wano also has the issue of Kaido/BM not being among the most charismatic antagonist and the multiple death fake outs that has sapped the tension out of a supposed war.

Every person in this fandom has an incredibly clear idea of what they want from this series; it’s becoming a little difficult to tell what Oda or, more directly, his editors want from it…I hope their plans for the rest of the story are more coherent than everything that’s going on right now, sticking the landing is virtually the only way to make up for the volatile shifts in tone we’ve dealt with for a few arcs now :risicheck:

For years the fandom complained about Oda not following his Traditional formula and how he should stop trying to subvert expectations

Oda does exactly that in Wano which is the most Alabasta/El lite arc of the Post Timeskip and you know what happens?

The fandom Complains that Oda is not taking risks and is sticking to a winning formula

Does the fandom even realise how contradictory their complaints are? Do people just complain for the sake of complaining?
I'm among the ones that wants something new for important arcs especially Wano. But whether new or old ways, it has to be grounded on solid concept and implemented in solid storytelling (the feeling, the mystery and buildup, the plot convergence, the interaction, the development, the urgency, the conflict, the harsh difficulty, the reward / payoff) , which i feel Oda didnt quite manage to execute.

Maybe it’s possible to do repeat a formula and do it badly after a while… See the Star Wars sequels… And it’s also possible to subvert a formula and ALSO still fo it badly… See the Star Wars prequels

So maybe what people want is for things to simply be good… That’s it… Just be good

Nah. If the fandom could write a list of everything they want and Oda did give every single thing in the list, we'd still see the same hysterical crap comments saying it's not enough.
Still, the pacing is a long time problem not only for Wano + the fake deaths were freaking ridiculous. Orochi's DF saving him was expected, but Kiku, Kin'emon and Kanjuro at least 2 times if he doesn't come back again, left me out of words.

We love mystery in the One Piece and oda know that, so he playing with us using silhouette for dozens of time, and then he reveal the mystery with a character, who is fckng chad but actually a fckng moron

He hype wano and yonkou like crazy, he make kaido have a lot of army, its feel like we getting big war, but instead we get a new character playing pokemon

He make fake tension, fake death everytime, he build character moment for a long periode of time and then he throw it away

He sacrifice the fight for the sake of introducing us with a girrafe in people ass

Imagine if the Marines brought an 8 year old girl to Marineford war and turned Whitebeards men against him, then rolled him out of Marineford. And instead of focusing on WB/Admirals/Luffy we focused on random fucking one note Marines. Also, no deaths whatsoever. Whitebeards death was a fakeout and so was Aces. Did that just make Marineford 10000x worse?? Because that's what the raid is now. No tension, no sense of focus. Just random pointless scenes slapped together. Oda can do better than this.

  • You drag tama in every chapter. We would complain.
  • You make a 8 year old kid major force of the alliance. We would complain.
  • You keep performing fake killing. We would complain.
  • You make Olin shit. We would complain.
  • You keep wasting pannels on fodders. We would complain.
  • You keep stretching the arc without any plot progress. We would complain.
  • You keep weaving useless back stories. We would complain.
  • "I am Oden!", "Oden-sama" . We would complain.
  • You turn a 8 year old kid into 28 from your ass. We would complain.
  • You bring "mama mode". We would complain.
  • You keep wanking Kanjiro and Orochi. We would complain.
  • You keep introducing useless characters. We would complain.
  • You make this raid looks like a party. We would complain.
  • You create fake hype (Wsw, Luffy sinking into the sea, Hyogoro getting killed,.. etc).We would complain.
  • Not even 1 major character has been killed ever since the raid started. We would complain.
  • You give irrelevant characters more screen time than the SHs. We would complain.
  • You clown a character who has been hyped for years. We would complain.

Oda: Year of Sanji
Fans: Great, we want to see Sanji shine

Oda: No, you don’t want that… what you really want is to see Sanji dragged through the mud, humiliated completely

Fans: No we don’t like that

Oda: yes, that’s what you want but you don’t know it yet.

Fans: No you piece of shit

Oda: WCI is the last time Sanji will look this cool… he will never look as good afte

Fans: …. Here we go again

Oda: Gives Sanji some of his best character moments in Wano

Fans: Yesssssssssssss we are happy…

Oda: B-B-B-but what he got this arc is supposed to be less cool than before in WCI

Fans: ….. Just shut up and keep it that way…

Lol

Conclusion
fans KNOW what they wanna see… let’s not try to justify shit for some fuck ups when it occurs hhhhh

No, last 10 or so good or atleast above average chapters doesn't justify 20 chapters of run piece or inconsistent or irrelevant piece. Scabbards is overused more than any other side characters in the story. They should have been killed or kept off paneled until the end of the war. Orochi and Kanjuro were never ending plots.
