Character Discussion Eustass Kid is a more interesting character than Luffy

While Kid is supposed to be a foil to Luffy, in terms of character, I honestly find him to be much more interesting.

Oda set up Luffy in such a way that it is literally impossible for him to fail. He's quite literally "pirate" jesus. Every single thing about Luffy makes him the chosen one.

• has CoC
• has VOAT
• easily unlocks all the advanced haki abilities that take decades to master
• is a D
• is the son of dragon, grandson of garp
• has no character flaws and everyone loves him
• his straw hat has some significance
• his devil fruit might have some significance

But Kid is different. Unlike Luffy, Kid has the deck stacked against him in multiple ways:

• his crew is lagging way behind those of the straw hats or the yonko
• he is kind of a cynical asshole and nobody likes him(and as a result, people don't just come to his rescue)
• seemingly has no special lineage
• fought shanks and lost an arm
• got into a pirate alliance, was betrayed, and was imprisoned
• nobody ever bothered to help him learn advanced haki

While many people meme on Kid as being a loser, I feel like this is part of what makes Kid's character so much more relatable when compared to Luffy's. When I was a younger one piece fan, I thought Luffy was really cool with him having all the different abilities that he does. But as an adult, I feel far more sympathetic to Kid. IRL not everyone is a Luffy, some people are losers, some people try all of their life to achieve something but will always come up short because fate never favored them.

And so now in wano, I honestly care more about Kid and Law vs Big Mom than I do Luffy vs Kaido. For Luffy, Kaido is just another stepping stone. We have seen him do this time after time, where he gets his ass beat just to come back to win. There is no tension in Luffy vs Kaido, I know Luffy will win because Oda will bend the plot in any direction to make it happen. But for Kid vs Big Mom, this is the first time Kid, a character who has a perpetual losing streak, has been presented with the opportunity to succeed.

And the thing is, its just that, an opportunity. There is no guarantee that Kid will win and it is entirely plausible that big mom stomps. And its because of this that I feel so much more invested in this fight. This is Kid's chance to make up for 2 years of failure in the new world, and I'm honestly hyped to see how it goes.

Laws much better tho. His rise has basically been on par wit or superior to kids. While basically being alone, his crew complete shit.

Who wouldn’t want to root for a true underdog over golden prophecy child? As the story goes on more people will realize Kidd is a better character. He just hasn’t been given that same focus Law got in Punk Hazard/Dresrossa yet.

Kidd vs Big Mom is also way more interesting than Luffy vs Kaido. One fight has an obvious outcome, while the other will keep people guessing. Will Kidd finally claim glory here? No one knows. Where as we all know pirate Jesus will somehow beat the Strongest Creature in the World. Kidd’s fight against Big Mom will most likely be a cool battle of powerful, unique Devil Fruits and matchup advantages, while Luffy’s fight with Kaido will just be smacking each other with some ass pull haki power up.

How much of a power levels rivalry do you think there's in between the two?



For instance I think they might fight one against in the distant future but calling it will be a Roger v Whitebeard level thing still looks preposterous for me for now. Too little elements.

Lol, Kidd is interesting because he is a failure? He failed to pick up the nice crew, failed to pick up an allies etc.
He is not an underdog, just a failure. His Df has a potential and all he does is repel, or collect junk. He is just your typical punk with punk attitude. Killer is more interesting than him.
Kidd is just a failure version of Luffy. Ironically people sugarcoat with plot armor.

Kid’s entire personality is just an edgy loser version of Luffy. He’s a bargain basement Blackbeard, with the arrogance of Bellamy minus the character development.

Kid is a more realistic Luffy. The difference is that Luffy is the MC and Kid is not.
Character wise they are similar. Like Luffy Kid is also a fearless pirate that would do everything for his crew. Instead of Luffy who also went through difficult times with his crew, Kid doesnt benefit with plot armor.
-He lost his arm
-Was betrayed by his Alliance partners
-His right hand man/best friend suffered permanent mental damage
But he still pulls through.
Look at Killer. He lost his sanity and his crew but still worked like a slave for Orochi just to save his crew, even if the chances were slim to actually save them.
