Granted I don’t care about luffy getting cucked by gabban but the base luffy that fought him is not comparable to the one that fought kaido.
Yup, Luffy didnt even use Gear 2, Luffy literally was treating Gaban as an old dude, reason he was literally surprised and catched off guard each time Gaban made a good move.
Once they knew, Gaban was a real deal they went "all out".
And Luffy now uses Gear 5 for everything, so it doesn't mean much using it against Gaban

Some of you Luffy fans on here are embarrassing honestly. What exactly is so surprising about Luffy getting pressed by an old legend? Even more so one that is being put on the same pedestal as Roger and Rayleigh. The over analyzing of Luffy didn’t use his Gears so muh muh to undermine Scopper is bloody pathetic. ‘Luffy wasn’t going all out?’ No shit Scopper wasn’t either. Whole point of the fcking duel was for Scopper to verify what Shanks said about Luffy & also gas the earlier up in that small time frame which Oda did a stellar job doing by the way. Respect the Old man’s strength and move on. It’s not that deep.

I don’t really care. Also don’t act like I don’t know who you are. You were one of the biggest Sanji fans with the dumbest takes out there. You realized how wrong you were and how right people like me were took a long hiatus and came back no longer a Sanji fan.

It does not shit on luffy in fact it only shits on Kaido and downplays him as capable fighter. Kàido got hit plenty times by base Luffy and even acknowledged him while Luffy could not perform a clean hit on Gaban or Kizaru without G5. Just exposes Kaido as devil fruit merchant lucky enough to have dragon scales for defense.
