Sanji uses his Armament whenever he used DJ. Gear 4 would be mostly related to Hells Memories since both involve fully coating his body with Haki and then using his unique ability. Gear 5 is more akin to IJ since it involved a latent ability he’s always had awakening that he then coats in haki.

Zoro doesn’t have an equivalent since he doesn’t have a transformative or physical boosting ability. Zoro just pumps out more and more haki but his body remains the same.

Sanji does need armament haki to use DJ otherwise he’d burn his leg with the extended use of the high heat like he mentioned pre timeskip.

That’s why he mentioned now that he had a more durable body with his CoA he can pump out even hotter flames than before.

If it were, the pain would be wear it makes contact, but the panel has the pain be on the portion of his leg in DJ.

The pain also kicks in well after the kick. If the pain was from the impact he’d feel it during the kick like he did in thriller bark.
