What's up WITH Oda?
Why does he view usually women as weaklings, or mentally disturbed?

Females in OP are either
  • Sexy and Useless or barely have combat feats
  • Beautiful and crybabies damsels
  • Strong but mentally disturbed
They always need savings, even if they start out strong, Oda finds a way to make them weak and cry babies.

The funny and sad part is that it's always a female who is less competent among male peers :
  • The only legendary Marine to not have great combat feats, Tsuru
  • The only warlord to not have many showings just another fangirl, Hancock
  • The only Veteran to be irrelevant and useless, Compote
  • The only sweet commander to be useless and incompetent, Smoothie
  • The only Yonko to be clowned over and over, Linlin
  • The only supernova to not do much in NW, Bonney.
You can see the pattern....Oda handles females so wrong.

Does Oda do female justice?

Oda usually goes down the road of Fan service when it comes to female characters. Pre TS we had some cool female fights with spiky girl of Alabasta Vs Nami, Kalifa Vs Nami and Skypiea arc fight of Robin but post TS most of the female characters are there only for fan servicing. Rebecca, the undefeated warrior was turned into a weeping baby girl. Big Meme, the Yonko and her daughters are all a joke.
I'm still positive on Oda turning it around though. We still have Catarina of BB pirates, Yamato, Ulti, Black Maria, etc.. who might prove to be a difference maker.

I mean, at least it's realistic - not the way he deals with it exactly tho.
Pirate's world is a world of cruelty and raw power usually, a world where the raw power of a woman just can't be enough.
It could have been nice tho to have a female character that relied on her intelligence to compensate, but the sole top tier that we have is the most low IQ roastie that is possible to imagine, aka big meme

Hancock getting caught by an Admiral will be a bliss..It shows that it takes an Admiral to take on Shichibukai. But Oda could mess it up by using only Coby and SSG to capture the empress.
well the only reason why coby might defeat hancock is because he is the student of one of the strongest characters in one piece (Garp).
on top of that we see Luffy defeating Crocodile and Moria pre-timeskip.
And i believe, EoS Coby will or at least on the same level as luffy or slightly weaker than luffy.

Fun Fact: (one of )the most successful pirates in history was a woman!

Her name was Ching Shih, a chinese pirate that commanded appereantly around 80.000 pirates at her peak. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ching_Shih

It's sure that One Piece is far from being the best manga or series when it comes to badass and well-written and used female characters.

When you see what Hancock has become with her mad love for Luffy, Robin who lost most of her intelligence and badassery that she had during Baroque Works saga, Big Mom having so many nerfed and it trolled moments and a weakness as ridiculous as Mother Carmel's picture, Smoothie not getting any real fight during WCI arc and so far in Wano arc, Tashigi being seriously mistreated during Punk Hazard arc it makes you really frustrated.

If we're talking strictly manga female characters, Yeah they all pretty much suck. A needle in a haystack if you will for the good ones.
Final Fantasy games imo have some good written Females. Pre Square-Enix. Light Novels also have some good ones imo as well, but it's still generally all the same.

I feel like you have to want to make a case of it in order for there to really be a case. I mean, the male characters are usually very stupid, extremely selfish, and every bit as flawed in their own way. With the exception of subjugating the world through their individual and group assertions of masculine force... in both the physical and psychological senses.

So basically it's very much true to what we know of the world's history when we look in hindsight.

I remember some female tuber said that nami is really striking to her because she treats other female kindly and can easily make friend with other female. Fanbase never think this way for sure but its a refreshing comment nonetheless. Really need some female fans's prespective on this.

Oda is better with women than most mangaka

Kishimoto....
oh lord and dont get me started on bleach.
