LOL utterly pathetic death for Houken :gokulaugh:
Nahh. Not that much pathetic. Ouki wasn't that much injured by Houken and definitely could have finished him in Bayou but there was some interference. Duke really didn't had that much chance against him.

Shin didn't got this fair and square though. KK did a lot by damaging his left hand so much. And later Shin just finished the job.

Narration: On this day as the sun set, within this long fight, the scarlet fields had become the most scarlet it's ever been. Those fighting beneath the sunset on these scarlet fields for a moment felt a chill. On the 15th day of the battle of the scarlet fields a big event was about to unfold.

Naki: Move! Get out of the way!

Soldier: Naki? Karyoten!?

Karyoten: Shin...Shin...

Bihei: Go Shin!

Denei: Take out Houken here and now Shin!

-Shin gets hit and starts to fall-

Denei& Denyuu: Shin!

Soldier: Captain!

Shin: It's okay. I hear you loud and clear. Hyou. Ah, I know. It's not just you. My comrades...I have many comrades keeping me alive. THIS IS FOR MY COMRADES HOUKEN!

Karyoten: M-move! Shin!

Kyoukai: No...stop...st...Shin is now...

Houken: (How? How is something like this possible? You...how are you "people" able to deflect my blade...I have followed my path and honed my blade for this but why? Does this mean...my path was wrong? No...maybe it means a path to being a martial god didn't exist for humans to begin with.)

Shin: Houken...

Zhao soldier 1: Listen, if by chance Houken-sama seems like he'll fall we must get Shin of the HSU...

Zhao soldier 2: ...yeah, I got it.

Houken: (No, that's not possible. For my path to be nonexistent is not a possibility) OOHH!

Shin: Houken!

-Shin breaks Houken's glaive-

Zhao soldier 1: It's dangerous

-Zhao soldiers are taken out as they try to interfere-

Denei: You think we'll just let you go you bastards?!

Denyuu: URRYAAHHH!

Shin: -dodges Houken's Ouki killing attack- HOUKEN!!! -Throws out Duke Hyou's Houken killing attack- OOHH!!!

Houken: You...you peole!

Shin: OOOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!

And, last but not least, NO BREAK NEXT WEEK!!! (unless it's a national break week for Japan for the holidays lol)

@Shanks lol, the problem isn't that he lost against Shin, Houken was overrated to begin with. The problem is that he lost against this Shin. Tired. Injured. Hungry. Even if you say that the old man and Kyoukai evened the odds (BTW, Houken did not indicate that any of those injuries slow him down) he was still fresh, unlike Shin who has been fighting for almost two weeks, and is now suffering hunger.

Even though I'm not a fan of Houken it's clear Hara did him dirty.

I was originally going to discuss this here but honestly, the Shin vs Houken fight deserves its own discussion thread. Lmao. This shite is hype. :lunazing:

After the chapter is out, I believe we need a detailed thread for this fight alone.

At least then we can keep all the bitching and the bitching about bitching to one thread. :smithnie:

This isn’t One Piece where you can get your heart and brain blown out and not even flinch lmfao, this is Kingdom where injuries are much more realistic.

Houken got stabbed through the leg, had two fingers sliced off, and took multiple wounds to his torso from Kyoukai. Should be pretty obvious that he was in pretty bad shape before his fight with Shin began.

Houken became overrated after killing Ouki. But the truth is Ouki was clear winner and above him. Strength wise i always believed him inferior to Ouki, Moubu, Kanmei, Tou, Renpa etc. That's why even in the beginning of the arc i said on oj that he's getting finished here.
he lost against this Shin. Tired. Injured. Hungry.
He nearly lost to a Shin which was lot inferior and quite exhausted than current Shin at Sai. Though i know even Houken was nerfed there but still he and Riboku got surprised that Houken lost in strength there.

There's one more instance of quite similar situation, battle against Gaimo on the last day. Shin was exhausted, unused to glaive and inferior strength wise but still overpowered Gaimo few times and survived the duel.

But right now i believe Shin matched the strength but overcome the issues with body through weigh of GG.

Houken was also fighting at Sai with a broken hand but didn't showed any issue there though he was definitely nerfed. Also KK nearly destroyed his left hand (sorry boss Shanks).

But i get it, this fight was most expected and should have been showed in better way than this. But still the way KyouKai and Shin fought, it was good. If you re read those chapters again than you might enjoy it. Lol

@Owl Ki yup, this fight definitely needs a separate thread. Make it quickly, lol.

Ouki sama would be happy seeing the progress of his student (son :kappa:).

Yeah, that's why Ouki had a glaive through his stomach and could still talk and engage in arm wrestling with Houken.
And it's nice you just take that phrase out of context when I say right before that Banyou and Kyoukai evened the odds.

@Admiral Lee Hung most serious damage was done by KK through cutting two fingers and stabbing through his arm.

But later Shin was also putting some damages coz there was blood spilling from Shin's glaive in few panels (might be multiple times). So it wasn't like its a duel where Houken was boss whole time and Shin just slayed him with friends power or it was a fluke.

Just coz fight wasn't upto the expectations of many people, it's getting criticised. :feelscryingman:

I agree with this (except for Tou) but still even w/o weight while Houken was below the very elite martial fighter he was far from a pushover.

Sai was another BS just like this one. Two BS put together don't make something good.

I didn’t say that a paper cut would finish off Ouki or anything like that lmfao, only that injuries in a Kingdom are much more grounded in reality than other stories of this type.

Houken had a stab wound in his leg, meaning any power he could’ve leveraged from his left leg was nerfed by the pain and damage that his leg received.

He was stabbed through his left arm and lost fingers there, which for the same reasons above will affect how much of the force from his swinging Glaive his left arm can bare.

Kyoukai left him giant wounds around his torso, which will once again lessen his strength output.

To say “the problem with this fight is that Houken has shown no signs of limitation from these injuries” is just wrong because Hara has established that injuries like this do have an effect on the body, even if characters are capable of fighting through the pain to an extent.

Gyou’Un took a similar wound that Houken did, and his men remarked that it was a miracle that he didn’t amputate his own arm after that, and Gyou’Un wasn’t shown using his dominant arm in battle after such a wound.

To act like Houken wasn’t inhibited at all from almost identical wounds just because he was never shown on panel commenting on his wounds? That’s just weird to me tbh lol.

Fair enough, lol. I will create the thread and give a detailed post later. Right now I am in a debate regarding WCI elsewhere. Fun times.

Tbh, I don’t know what people were even expecting lol. I’ve been reading the criticisms of this arc/this fight, though I haven’t been commenting because this arc (including this fight) is in my opinion a manga masterpiece and one of my all time favorite arcs, and the criticisms of it that I’ve seen haven’t swayed my opinion or caused my enjoyment of Kingdom to diminish at all lol.

That said, if I were to have made a legit prediction post on this fight, I dare say that I would’ve been spot on lol. So this fight has gone pretty much been 85-90% accurate to the way I envisioned it going.

Maybe some day I’ll do a post on why the criticisms to Houken are invalid, but idk lol. Like I said, my enjoyment of Kingdom hasn’t lessened even after reading people’s complaints

It was well done and Hara made a good job not to drag it.

I like that something similar to Bayou almost happened. If you remember, after Ouki broke Houken's weapon in Bayou, he did that same backwards thrust. This time, however, it was dodged by shin, and any outside interference was dealt with before it became a problem. I don't know if this is an intentional parallel, but it's interesting.

As far as Houken's death goes, I'm okay with it. I was never that interested in Houken to begin with.
