It just seems kind of surprising that Riboku did actually have a plan this whole time when he has been in "Oh shit!" mode for like, what? 3-5 chapters? Lol.
I guess it could be something he had planned for a dire circumstance that he really wasn't expecting to have to do or something that he had planned in general but didn't expect to have to spring it up in the circumstance he is currently in.

One of the most GOATED starts to an arc, just hoping doesn't end with Clowndom.
Nope def. not the only one, dude gives me too much flashbacks of the emo Uchiha bums of Naruto to find him interesting, just a generic edgelord/dark character. The one chance Hara had to make him interesting was with the weakness, but we all know how that turned out.
It's insane how good this arc started and it went on a downhill trajectory once the HSU escape happened. That battle should've Kanki's end, instead of dragging into this clownfest.
@Owl Ki on point with the Ei Sei-Kanki comment bruhz. And it's even worst for me, since imo Riboku & Ryofui actually had better arguments to Ei Sei than Sei's arguments. But Sei actually stood his ground with passion n shit. But got damn that Sei-Kanki conversation lmao. What in the blue fuck. We go from Ryo & Riboku proposing two legit plans while completely acknowledging the flaws of their plan... to this walking gimmick of a general.
And the sad part is Hara is sidelining Tou, Moubu, YTW for this non-sense.
At this point i'm just wondering whether the popularity polls affected his writing of Kanki.

But I think you can look at Chapter 686 where Raido says something that made him understand the dude more. It's clearly in the text.
Perhaps you take issue with the disconnect regarding Kanki's actions throughout the manga, to which I say you may have to take it up with Hara my guy. I think these past two arcs really wants us to see Kanki as this ''robinhood'' character, albeit, an evil psychopathic one that is out to commit genocide.

As a Sei fanboy, even I gotta admit he got made into a bitch. I still liked the confrontation but he let off a guy that killed 100,000 surrendered men which made his unification plans 1,000x more difficult. Made me take him less seriously.
I understand not killing him, as he is a necessary asset, but it would have been interesting if he forced one of Kanki's own subordinates to be beheaded as well.

The real Ei Sei, or rather the Ei Sei chronicled in history, would’ve done unspeakable things to Kan Ki for mobilising his army, never mind putting his feet up or talking back.
One of my biggest critiques of the manga is the amount of whitewashing Hara has done. I suppose some of that is necessary if you don’t want to dedicate 20+ years to gruesome brutality and horrific atrocities, I can imagine that could weigh on someone mentally, but there’s a balance that should be struck - in my view - and I don’t think Hara has done a particularly good job of that.
The manga hasn’t really done a good job of mirroring just how visceral the Warring States Era was or how brutal and hated the Qin were in particular.
One of my biggest critiques of the manga is the amount of whitewashing Hara has done. I suppose some of that is necessary if you don’t want to dedicate 20+ years to gruesome brutality and horrific atrocities, I can imagine that could weigh on someone mentally, but there’s a balance that should be struck - in my view - and I don’t think Hara has done a particularly good job of that.

I think we'll be seeing the real Ei Sei soon tbh. Most of the real cruel Ei Sei things that are chronicled, happen near end of unification or post-unification. Which imo Hara is already setting up to go wrong with these four things:
1st. Ei Sei stating he doesn't care if he'll be renowned as a Tyrant. Sets him to not give a fuck about what anyone else says and keep on going down whatever he believes to be the right path.
2nd. Qi King stating that if Sei's eyes ever become clouded with impurity, Qi will fight to the last state. For me there is absolutely 0 chance that his eyes are going to stay "pure". This is all for the set up imo, of Ouken being the 1st key figure who'll realize.. yo.. Ei Sei is changing. Hence triggering the gruesome last campaign for RiShin to cement him as the GOAT.
3rd. Hara already setting up one of the top things that made Ei Sei in real be renowned as a tyrant: the massive hunt of Confucius scholars and burning of the books.
The real challenge to bring peace starts post unification, that's when Ei Sei really gets tested as a monarch/ruler. Like they said it's one thing to conquer nations, but it's a whole different level to maintain what you conquered.
4th. This one is just my theory tbh lmao. Shin will be tested on what he said in chapter 193. He's already being tested when it comes to Kanki (I still believe Shin is gonna be the one killing him). And if that ends up happening, then I do believe that King part will be tested as well. And the test to his character won't be from a random state king that he can kill due to being the enemy, nah, but the mf who he's meant to be the sword for. Once that man's eyes get fully clouded, is when Shin's test will come as to how strong his character really is and if he would truly hold that same energy against a King that he held for the 1000man commander from the same army as him.

Kanki cares about pulling up the squad he assembled. No different than Doflamingo caring about the bums in his family, without a regard for anyone else. That's literally it.
That's how I'm seeing Hara's writing of him so far. His words not going with actions that Hara is making him do just means the dude is being written on purpose to be talking about something else while his actions are of something else. Doflamingo/Kaido/and such are similar as well.
But we're simply discussing is the reality of what they do, which is the actions. And that reality of Kanki being he gives a fuck about handful of his personal people, with no regard for anyone else in the world.

As for who kills Kan Ki - it's been my headcanon/theory that Ei Sei informed Shin of his plans to deal with Kan Ki at Eikyuu when they toured the aftermath together. I believe we may see Kan Ki flee with his remaining retinue, only to run into Shin (and possibly Hyou Shiga) who, as revealed in a flashback, was told by Ei Sei he would make Kan Ki an example of the Power of Law once he ran out his usefulness, and that he leave it to his trusted sword to capture or eliminate him.
Were that the case, then I think we'll get textboxes of how Ei Sei and his court made sure to spread the news far and wide that Kan Ki was executed for his atrocities, not his failures, in an attempt to rehabilitate Qin's image and by extension Ei Sei, and to show the people living in the other states that the Power of Law imposed by Ei Sei would in fact be a good thing for them, a just thing.
Kan Mei was in fact a scholar, Hou Ken was indeed a general, and there are many, many, many more creative liberties Hara has taken.
Creative liberties are not only fine, they're necessary. Hara is, after all, telling a fictionalised story based on history. It's why so many events had to be condensed or abridged because the story would otherwise take 1000s of chapters. I don't think Hara is very interested in going over all the events that happened, and if he were, research must be an absolute pain in the ass if not nigh impossible.
I don't mind the 99% of the liberties Hara has taken in changing history. I don't care that he seems to keep "spawning" Zhao generals left and right - it makes things interesting, and that's all that really matters in writing.
I do think the Qin are coded as the good guys a bit too strongly. It's not just a matter of perspective, but also material. The material doesn't seem to challenge the merits of Qin's/Ei Sei's ambitions or methods.

I think the assassination attempt by Yan will come at the cost of Kou's life. I think she's going to die in a similar way to Ki Sha and that event will begin Sei's descent if not warp him completely.
I also think it's possible, perhaps down the line, Ei Sei will fear that he won't be able to see his ambitions through in one lifetime and will thus become obsessed with immortality and that he increasingly desperate pursuit of that might change him even also.
