Any big organization, religion etc consolidate their sense of power through taking advantage of other human beings, usually but not exclusively children.
All it takes is to take a good look at history and assess how many of those do NOT have some form of slavery, ritualistic prostitution or human sacrifice going on and note that being victimized is often considered a great honor by the members of each group.
