Meaningless deaths..?
It was not meaningless. They died for what was right. They were brave.
What they died for was right and it was brave, but
it didn’t stop the Holocaust, nor did it stop the regime.
I think there is something admirable about those who die for an ideal. But also I think the concept of martyrdom is quite toxic. There is an element of foolishness in it that I think society fails to realize.
human life is very important and people shouldn’t give it up, nor encourage others to give it up, lightly.
Ultimately life is complicated. There are times when one must fight and there are times it’s better not too. Personally I’d be extremely hesitant to throw my life away if I wasn’t certain it would make a significant difference.

Insurgents fought Nazis all over Europe. Look up French and Polish resistance.
perhaps those people had a bigger impact, haven’t read too much about them
but in school I did read about the German college students who handed out anti-nazi pamphlets and got executed for it
there cause was righteous and it is good society honors people such as that, to uphold the values they died for
I suppose that is the meaning of their death. So they can be an example of virtue or something.
but I just really struggle with the idea of people throwing away their lives on whims like that. People shouldn’t be dispensable like that.

If you are an american you must defend the staple of its constitution, otherwise what's the point of being one?
Saying "I was born in america I did not swear an oath" sounds disingenous. It's the ultimate escapism. Being part of a culture and having a nationality should mean something, sharing a culture and common ideals. Otherwise you just reinforce the stereotype of the immigrate that comes only for the money.
Perhaps there will come a day and time I will need to fight for my nation. I cannot say what I would do then, but I hope I do the right thing, whatever that might be.
What I can say, is that time is surely not now.
