Manga Discussion Give me a theme, I give you a manga

I'm new to the manga industry.
Shit Piece was the very first i followed on a binge. But now that it became a shit manga,i've decided to move on to other things that the manga industry has to offer.
I really don't feel like read Solo Leveling for these reasons:
-I don't want to make the same mistake as Shit Piece. As Shit Piece is the face of manga industry for many people, these people spread the idea that it is the only good thing the industry has to offer, which makes even more people become addicted to just Shit Piece full time without ever knowing other good things beyond this. I am informed that Tower of God and Solo Leveling are among the best-known webtoons, thus i want to try some that are lesser-known so as to enjoy this industry in a out-of-the-box way from the beginning.
-I did read Solo Leveling's synopsis, and it's like My Hero Academia and Black Clover:"A powerless protagonist is bestowed with a massive power by someone/something due to having the necessary qualities.". I'm not interested in anything that has horrible cliches.
These are the things i like in a story:
-Wheter the story is set in a completely fictional universe or a fictional version of our real world,it should be a rich universe with countless things to explore.
-A author who knows how to create concepts, and also execute them properly.
-A story where the sense of realism is well-balanced across the board not matter how fanciful the universe is. After all, there are certain truths about life that even fiction cannot ignore.
If you know webtoons with these aspects, please tell me everything about them.
Thanks for the clarification!
Yep, you should enjoy FMA, as far as I see.
I'm also reading Claymore now, will let you know if it could be your cup of tea as well, heard a lot of praise about that one.

As for webtoons, unfortunately, I didn't read many of them, tried Solo Levelling, liked it because it reminded me of D&D which I play and DM irl, tried Noblesse (don't recommend, a lot of it doesn't make sense), tried "The tales of demons and gods" (don't recommend, dropped it because MC was annoying), and Re:Life. Re:Life was the best one out of those I tried, but it's probably not a story you're looking for, as it's about super drugs that give you back 17y.o appearance and the main character is given a chance to re-live his last year of high school to get his life back on track. So it's a story heavily focused on relationships and their development, more like slice of life + romance kinda thing.

I read about Fullmetal Alchemist. Really seems interesting to me.
What can you tell me about Edward?(Seriously,i don't mind spoilers. I read spoilers about movies, series etc all the time before watching/reading.)
Is he a smart and resilient protagonist who can drive the plot? I can't take any more dumbfuck plot-driven protagonists like Condom-Boy.
My real-life responsibilities are slowing down the reading of the mangas i've been recommended, but that's how life works.
If Edward is my type of protagonist,i will put Fullmetal Alchemist before Sakamoto Days and Dandadan in the list. I think it's more convenient that way since it's a complete manga.

Tbh, Edward is both smart AND your typical shounen MC as he is quite hot-headed and does a lot of regular shounen MC staff. He feels more complex than Luffy though. His running gag is being constantly annoyed/mad at people calling him short / shrimp / misunderstand his brother for him which sometimes can be hella annoying itself.

@Light D Lamperouge , care to help a little? I've read FMA 10+ years ago and your memory is fresh (plus you read all three mangas and can recommend the sequence).

- Don't read Solo Leveling if you love proper plot and character. It's good but only until a point after defeating a red knight with extreme difficulty. After that, MC become a full on Gary Stu who is loved by everyone and stronger than anyone.

- Don't read Black Clover either. Sorry for me the cliche in character ambition and statements is too unbearable.

My recommendation:

- Hunter x Hunter (fantasy shonen manhwa, ambitious with its in-lore logic and power system. Has many great and unpredictable arcs.)

- Bastard (Manhwa, thriller in daily life)

- Gosu (Manhwa about martial arts, completed, drags at the very final fights but other than that its simple yet amazing)

- Return of Mount Hua Sect (simple martial art manhwa story but good emotion and proper pacing)

- Sakamoto Days, Spy X Family (two mangas of the same espionage and extremely quick and swift combat)

- Toriko (Cool concept and massive world. But, just read it until the timeskip break. Consider the manga ends there and don't continue lol).

- Legend of Northern Blade (manhwa about martial arts world. Cool art and combat, mildly dark and tragic story, bombastic in destruction of fights)

- Reincarnation of Suicidal Battle God (manhwa about reincarnation done properly)

---

Naoki Urasawa manga, great ones

- Master Keaton
- Monster
- Pluto
- 20th Century Boys, 21st Century Boys

Do give them a read.

And finally,

---

The best ones for me

- Vagabond (story about Musashi. Best manga i've ever known. The manga is on hiatus but there is a separate file/book depicting its ending.)

- Berserk (some dark and gory manga. It has an arc called Eclipse, which is for me the best arc in entire manga history)

- Friday: Forbidden Tales (collection of short stories. The best manhwa i've ever known)

Sorry, cant resist.

On-topic:

I'm looking for a manga with battleships, airships, naval battles or aerial battles.
-Legend of the galactic heroes
-Zipang
The chronicle of seven cities (nana toshi monogatari)
I think those are great, you should start with legend of the galactic heroes me think, it's the easiest entry then The chronicle of seven cities and last but not least zipang.

@PeperLevi @Devilbat is right. Ed is smart and can move the plot, but has some typical MC moments too. But he's pretty good. As for the sequence of how you should read them I'd say go with FMA first cuz it's completed then you can switch to either of Dandadan or Sakamoto.

I'm reading Hunter X Hunter on a binge right now.
This manga gets everything right that Shit Piece does wrong. I'm rooting for Togashi to succeed at change the manga's publication format so that the series can go on.
Sakamoto Days is already in my list.
🤝👍 Thank you for finally recommend me some manhwas. I will add Bastard,Gosu,Return of Mount Hua Sect and Legend of Northern Blade to my list.

Some days ago,i tried a manga called Tokyo Aliens on MangaSee.
I read a reader say in a comment that it's not a promising story. He said it's a boring story about superpowered high-schoolers duking it out,and that it doesn't even focus on the concept of aliens properly. He seems to be right,as the first chapters failed to impress me.
But what caught my attention about this comment,is that he said there are better examples of manga with the theme "superpowered heroes fighting superpowered villains on urban settings.". I think stories like this can be more pleasant in the manga format than in western comics, given how much more effective the manga format is for reading and publishing.
Does anyone here know any manga like this to recommend me?

Not really and seeing what BNHA turned into, I don't really want to read any new superhero themed manga. Urban setting and super powers sure, just not super heroes.
Eh, I wish Yomi no Tsugai was a little faster in terms of releases.
