Break Week Has Oda treated WSS legit?

Elder Lee Hung

Conqueror of the Stars
IIRC Oda said Shanks lost no power from the loss of the arm/hand. So moot point.
Oda never said this, this was a rumor birthed on Reddit which has never been substantiated. Shanks losing his arm immediately lowered his power ceiling and forced him beneath Mihawk.

Even if Oda did say this, it wouldn’t have refuted anything I said though.

Cyrus the Cactus

Mihawk Reigns Supreme
The “Worlds Strongest Swordsman” title is completely irrelevant because the only person who seems to care about it is Zoro
The “Yonko” title is completely irrelevant because not even the Yonko care about it.

It’s a misinterpreted line from Databook Red I believe. It says Shanks is still strong even with one arm (in essence).

They aren't Yonko just because they have crew and territory. Look at Buggy. Just a Warlord. You "Need" strength. Can't believe this is so hard for you people to understand.

Because he isn't strong enough.

No the actual translation is like 'Even with one arm, he's still really strong!'

Tell Kejon that, not me lol. He was the one who compared them.

And we do know how WSS is decided, it’s been explained to us in Vivre Cards. It’s decided the exact same way all the other rumor strongest titles like WSM and WSC are decided. It’s just that people are more willing to buy into WSM and WSC than they are to buy into WSS.
I'm just saying that in order to become a Yonko you also need a strong crew, territory and leadership skills. Mihawk has none of that. I also do not think he is as strong as the Yonko or even the Admirals. I think swordsmen in general aren't the most powerful people in One Piece. So getting that WSS title is easier than becoming a Yonko.

We know Shanks used to rival Mihawk (current WSS), has 2 on screen combat situations where he used a SWORD against top tiers (WB and Akainu), his sword is named (Gryphon), and has been using swords since his days on the Roger Pirates.

Sounds like a swordsman to me

I see Shanks as someone who doesn't purely focus on his sword like Mihawk and Zoro. He is concentrating more on his mastery of Haki, which makes more sense.

Haki isn't a fighting style but it can make you more powerful. Stronger COA and your not getting touched or your beating your opponent. Nothing suggests Mihawk has the best Haki in the world. And even if he did, look what happened to Katakuri, Luffy won despite having worser CoO, he made up for it though. Being the best doesn't mean you're infallible.

Roger + Rayleigh + Oden were also swordsmen...

Haki mastery is a necessity for any swordsman. Shanks can have top tier haki and still be a swordsman you know. Haki isn't a fighting style
Haki is a necessity for anyone.
I would say it is the only thing required to be a top tier.
DFs, swords and limbs are a gimmick that helps get to some point but have their limits; the only important thing is Haki.
Since Mihawk is introduced as the WSs twice, means that he has the deadliest and strongest haki amongst swordsmen.

Was easily replaced by WG new Toys
To downplay the SSG as just “new toys” when the WG was confident enough in it that Kaido said they hadn’t messed up or gone insane by replacing the entire Warlord system with it ain’t a good argument. To sum them as being mere toys is a massive understatement.
Isn't considered a Great Pirate
Well you are right, he’s considered more than that by the author himself
“SBS Volume 73” said:
D: Hey, Oda! In all of these fight scenes, why doesn't anybody go for the men's groins? Doesn't that seem like the quickest path to victory? P.N. Eldest of the Asada Siblings.
O: True, that is a vital area. Just imagine legends among men--Whitebeard, Shanks, Mihawk--staring each other down, bearing their weighty ideals...and trying to whack each other in the balls!
IS THAT THE KIND OF MANGA YOU WANT TO READ?!

  • has never been to Wano
  • has never fought Yonko Version of Shanks
  • Has not fought any top tier swordman
  • Has never beaten high tier/Vet tier swordman
Everything else you said here hasn’t been substantiated by canonical evidence. We’ll just have to wait and see. Though I’ll say if Mihawk hasn’t been to Wano, that would be pretty bad from a writing standpoint.

This is my headcannon don't kill me, I believe that Mihawk never wanted to properly fight at MF war, he was just making a charade. And also he has always been part of the Revolutionary Army. :milaugh:

since he did not call the man gold roger WSS ... I have no reason to respect this title

p.s

I know stupid wankers say to themselves : who else but Roger? I think he should have been
but no ... Oda had every chance to give him that title and didn't ... he have no plan to do so ...

soon it end up that world give the title of WSS to any one who turn his black blade or someshit
that's why Roger's era had no WSS
