Character Discussion Has Oda treated Zoro good enough in Wano

#69
The trend continues of Zoro not getting individual recognition in bigger scales,Wano has not helped at all in that matter.
For a character whose dream will put him in the mind of everyone in the world he's way way behind,I don't know how Oda will achieve this overnight without making it look like an asspull.
(Strawhat group recognition is irrelevant)

Fighting wise the already hinted CoC was confirmed , getting aCoC was the highlight definitely.
Enma highlights and undermines him (the later due Oda being unable to stop saying Oden name).

Outside of cool action if we being honest oda has low key fumbled the ball with zoro this arc
  1. Didn't let him lead any samurai like he said he would
  2. Just about all his relationships with the samurai feel shallow. With everything he did in act 2 feeling less and less important as time goes on
  3. How little kaido kaido acknowledges him even with him being the second person ever to scar him
  4. Enma
  5. Oda barely caring about delving into zoro's connection to wano with most the information coming from sbs
  6. Oda lowkey adding in the fact just because someone carries a sword doesn't make them a swordsman
  7. The land of swordsmen likely not knowing or carrying about mihawk the wss and zoros goal
Oda fumbled
Even if he does kill kaido and get a blackblade
1. its one pf my problems he didn't lead shit
2. again another problem what was the point of him meeting yasuie and the whole stuff after that it become irrelevant in act3
3. it was more like mocking than acknowledgment
4. enma is poorly explained still people are debating what the f it is does it have oden haki and in rooftop it get more acknowledgment than zoro
5. even in sbs its not that much of info he did say he isn't ushimaru son but didn't say he has no relation with shimotsuki
6. yeah it depend on them self kaku was like king but he was a swordsman but king wasn't
7. its not even that big of problem when you consider land of swordsman don't even have any strong swordsman that is alive its much bigger problem like legit strongest samurai alive isn't even a yc3 level

at this point zkk with out good build up or BB is just a fighting feat character wise it barely make any difference

fighting wise it was good for zoro but character wise very bad

Eh, he got a lot of spotlight and hype moments. If Zoro was badly treated, what should fans of other straw hats even say?:kobeha:

Although I do agree Oda didn't meet the expectations of readers he himself set up ( I actually prefer him being a random but Zoro lineage ended up being a gigantic bait that went nowhere) so yeah character wise it feels underwhelming.

In my Wano reread I’m up to Big Mom crashing Udon and Zoro has been the star of the show.

(For anyone wondering how a reread effects Wano, Act One is excellent, Act Two is a mess up until Zoro vs Kamazo as Oda keeps darting back and forth between scenes without letting anything breath).

The Shimotsuki thing bugs me because I’d rather Oda just make his mind up whether he’s going to include it in the manga or not but otherwise, it’s been grand for Zoro.
for me
act 1 was very good
act 2 was some what good but mostly mid
act 3 is good untill end of oden FB after that onigashima part is very bad for most part when you consider how much panel and time he wasted for useless thing like running around Fodders bullshit threats (ice oni - onigashima falling - bombs - fire - kazenbo it was to much) fake deaths and etc it even make act 2 and zou way worse than they are by abandoning or bad execution of plot lines from them and even making some irrelevant

Zoro lived up to expectations as the combatant of the Strawhats but his character progress is almost nonexistent. Oda could solve the Yasuie and Shimotsuki connection in just 1 chapter but nah, didn’t happen.

the fact that oda treated them badly make it even worse
if it was just zoro i wouldn't complained that much but the fact that he treated all shs expect luffy very bad is probelm we waited fore like whole time skip for at least good and some what long fight or good character moments for shs and get bare minimum

he wasted so many chapter on bullshits but didn't had time for shs

Zoro had good moments but his character arc was nonsensical

"i'm going to round up the samurai"- didn't happen
"I'm going to avenge Yasu"- didn't happen
the entire zoro lineage subplot was thrown in the trash

Its like Oda didn't know what he wanted to do with Zoro so he just baited the fanbase with a bunch of possible routes and failed to deliver on almost any of them. Oda did have Zoro cut up kaido, so I guess that counts for something. But good writing is more than simply having Zoro do cool things.

I think if Zoro's end goal in wano was 1v1ing king, then Oda should have treated King like an actual rival for Zoro. Why not have King meet Zoro before onigashima?
Why not tie King into Zoro's lineage? Oda could have made King the person who killed Ushimaru.

I also think that Oda could have done more to make Zoro deserving of CoC. In what way is Zoro a conqueror? He's literally just Luffy's sidekick. If Oda set up Zoro to lead the samurai, then him awakening CoC would be so much more impactful. Because CoC wouldn't simply be a power up Oda gave Zoro so he can stay relevant, it would actually mean something.

Again, Zoro leading the samurai could have tied into Zoro's lineage. Oda could have had Zoro round up the samurai in Ringo, with the ringo samurai ultimately seeing ushimaru in Zoro.

Ultimately it just seems like there's no sense of coherence in how Oda wrote Zoro.

He got plenty of hype scenes and feats but who cares about that he already got dozen of those.
His arc in Wano was all over the place. What was his whole plotline in act 2 for ? Why did he meet Yasui, Hiyori, that fox and said he was gonna kill Orochi if absolutely none of that mattered in the end ? How does it fit narratively in the story ? Shimotsuki lore ? Him inheriting Oden's sword ?

Really the only difference between end of Wano Zoro and beginning of Wano Zoro is that now he cuts better, no character growth nothing. Even him getting coc was just used as a power up...
I expected much more
