Oden never used a technique like Kamusari or Heaven Splitting, of course he is going to surprise.

Oden used Paradise Waterfall Ad.CoC on Wano before joining WB Pirates, its still based on touching his opponent.
Oden used Paradise Totsuka Ad.CoC vs. Kaido after WB Pirates, its still based on touching his opponent.

Oden never learned those no touching techniques Kamusari, it has nothing to do with him being prime or not.
