Mihawk already become the WSS before he become the Seven Warlord.
Shanks Isnt become stronger he only gained his previous strenght back after he lost his dominant arm and become Yonko.

Shanks doesnt really have such reputation before he Clashed with Mihawk.
He is one of the "Four Emperors" who reign in the "New World". Once an apprentice of Roger's pirates, he later went head to head with the "Hawk-Eye" and eventually became an equal presence to "Whitebeard". "Red-hair" has built countless legends in this sea.

Not confirmed in the manga or sbs that he became WSS before joining WG

The real answer is that titles are narrative tools for Oda to say something to the viewer. Prime WB was WSM simply because he was that. Kaido was WSC simply because he was that. Mihawk is WSS simply because he is that.

Several toptiers have gotten their fame scenes, flashbacks and wankings by now. We're in the middle of a flashback that will reveal the most anticipated fight flashback ever.
Dragon and Mihawk are the only ones left to get their wankings if I'm not missing one.

When No Person shows Greater Power than WB, They have No Choice but to call WB "Strongest Man"
When No Person shows Greater Physique/Body than Kaidou, They have No Choice but to call Kaidou "Strongest Creature"
When No Person shows Greater Swordsmanship than Mihawk, They have No Choice but to call Mihawk "Strongest Swordsman"

When you're the Best, you don't need to prove yourself to anyone, you just Claim the Title & it's up for others to Prove that you're not
Simple Answer is: "They Failed"

There are Dozens of Characters who have DFs as Powerful as WB's, but He is only one whose Power threatens entire World
There are Dozens of Characters who are as Physically Strong as Kaidou, but He is only one who is Near-Unkillable
There are Dozens of Characters who have Top Sword-Styles like Mihawk's, but He is only one whose Style cannot be Countered

Surpassing WB required someone who did the Impossible by having Two DFs (Historically never Happened, for at least 800 Years)
Surpassing Kaidou required someone who did the Impossible by Awakening Nika DF (Historically never Happened, for at least 800 Years)
Surpassing Mihawk requires Zoro to do an Impossible Feat that was never witnessed in at least 800 Years

And coming to your question about Mihawk specifically, it's as i said above, They all Failed to prove that Mihawk doesn't deserve his Title, instead of saying "Mihawk didn't Defeat this & that & that", it's the opposite, Mihawk's Title signifies that the World didn't see anything from Shanks or Oden or Fujitora or any Knight or any Samurai or any Pirate that makes them Claim this Person deserves Title more than Mihawk

And Shanks is biggest Candidate who Hypes Mihawk, even if They never fought, cuz Shanks is Extremely Famous, if the World didn't acknowledge his Power, They wouldn't call him an Emperor, They wouldn't give him 4B Bounty, They wouldn't be scared of him, Kaidou wouldn't put him in his Top 5 He ever Faced ... etc

Despite all this, Shanks was simply not given such Title, and Brannew even confirmed it
Mihawk is simply Stronger than any Swordsman

Nope you getting confused as most people is most likely mihawk especially when we learned taht he was a marine hunter.
Don’t take the movie as events cubism to canon what was canon was zephyr’s story meaning he was an admiral , an instructor and he lost his arm to a person who got invited as a sichi after that dont get confused about the timeline

Mihawk and Shanks had several duels that became famous where nether could win. Shanks then lost his arm giving Mihawk the edge. It’s easy to see how Mihawk would then come to be recognized as WSS, because no one else can match the level of his and Shanks duels.

Did he defeat Ray back in his prime? Doesn’t seem like it.

Did he defeat Vista a renowned swordsman? No, he only met him in MF and the fight got stopped(not saying he couldn’t, but the only on panel worthy he got a chance to defeat)


He didn’t even go to Wano a swordsmen heaven to prove his superiority.

So far we haven’t seen much note worthy swordsmen falling by his hands so let alone the top tier ones. Just how did he get the title when he never fought any of them!

How is he stronger than Shanks a guy he didn’t fight for 12+ years when we know Shanks gotten stronger and only became a yonko 6 years ago.

again this is not to trash Mihawk. However, I just wanted to know your thoughts on the matter.

Honest answer : confirmed by the Marine that he has a superior swordskill than even Shanks a yonkou. Big Mom, kaido, wb and the c3 admirals, garp are not swordsmen. Only Rayleigh and Shanks so it makes Mihawk the WSS because > them.
Was called Marine Hunter because dude wasn't just fighting but hunting Marine so a direct theat to WG, still they didn't catch him nor even wound him.

By default makes him one of the strongest in the world and the WSS.

Enough or you want a troll answer ? like Kaido the WSC and WB the WSM, Mihawk is the WSS because Oda wants it.

Mihawk probably a false flag, nasajuro is the current WSS and he was the gorosei who lost to ryuma when the WG tried to invade wano.

Nasajuro is Zoro's final fight.
