I was depressed for 2 years.
What helped me:
- my family/ good people around you
- time for yourself, go for a walk
- my faith in God
- accept your problems and try to move on. You can always start again, as long as you’re healthy.
- Nobody, no words, no therapies can fully heal you. They can help you but you’re the one who takes the last step. It’s in your hands. It’s not easy and you think that nobody understands you but maybe you need a little time for yourself and understand yourself first
Not gonna lie to you brother/sister. I've been struggling hard my whole fucking life with depression. It's situational and depends on what it stems from. For me life can really hit you hard. Until these past couple of weeks I've made a major change in my headspace. I've started to put me first. I've told myself to do better. I've forced myself to try harder at everything I'm doing. Which was the hardest part. I'm only 3 weeks in. I'm seeing the results already. My only advice is to believe in yourself. Life fucking sucks. Everyone knows it sucks and most avoid trying to face this fact. Break that cycle.
I used to feel it in times when there was lot of work pressure and grilling from Bosses real hard but I left that job ; but sometimes it was really bad and each morning before going to work I dreamt of leaving that company
As for me. I no longer feel depressed ever. I might get pissed off at smth. But never depressed. I got tired from feeling so bad. I needed a rest. Actually I needed a retirement, that shit felt like it was too much work lol. So now a **** perma holiday
Any idea what's causing it? Cause a very common cause for depression is feeling a lack of purpose or escape. Think of a video game; when you first get it, you're very excited and playing it everyday. Soon enough, you start to get bored of it cause you've done the same thing numerous times over, feeling no more enjoyment. Imagine if you had no choice but to play that one game again and again, now replace the game with life.
Doing the same thing over and over again can easily make one unhappy as nothing exciting and motivating is happening anymore. Your brain starts getting used to feeling unhappy and the chemicals it realizes makes it difficult for it to stop similar to addiction, creating depression(which is why there are anti-depressants to weaken those chemicals).
If it's BAD, seek help. Curing depression(or think of it like addiction) has to start somewhere. If it's not at that stage yet, a change of pace could do wonders.
Some of you guys have no idea what you are talking about... Depression can hit anyone, it's a disease which needs to be treated like any other sickness. Sometimes it fades away without anyone doing anything but sometimes you need help or someone to talk with. It's never too late to ask for help, I never went to see a specialist and I don't know much about depression but i think that you can talk with them even without paying anything just to ask for advices, there is even some national and international numbers you can call depending on your location.
Depression is not a disease; It's an emotional state. And the same goes for anxiety.
If you're feeling depressed that means there's a problem in your life causing the depression, so what you should want to take care of is the problem that is causing the depression to begin with, and not the depression itself, which is an indicator of the problem.
By treating depression as if it were a disease people end up consuming drugs that just deceive the body so that they don't feel depression even though they are supposed to feel depression as a natural reaction to the problems occurring in their lives.
Likewise, pain is not a disease, but a natural sign to alert that the person is getting hurt, and no sane person would use anaesthesia in order not to feel the pain from getting beaten up by someone everyday instead of trying to get rid of the bully.

Feeling Depressed is what you just said, not Depression.
Depression can hit people with perfect lives, they have chemical imbalances in their brain, just "trying to find something to fix in your life" isn't a solution.
In fact, there are cases of many people that get more depressed once they fix their "problems" because they thought simple things like getting a job, getting a relationship, losing weight and so on... would fix their depression, but it didn't it. It just left them even more depressed because they couldn't find a reason for it.

I am far too uniformed about this to speak on it but I often remember the statement of a religious man, I believe he was a Muslim, but he said that if the Kings of this world knew what we felt every time we prayed to God, then they would fight us with their swords for it. Men like this had no depressions though they lived in the toughest of times, so in my humble opinion, one of the cures for these aliments is finding purpose, a true sense of purpose in your life, at least that's how I interpreted the words of this man.
I think you should get some professional help. It might be a waste of money, but it might also be the miracle that you need in your life.
Personally, I rarely feel depressed because I am quite busy with my work and life. There are moments when I feel depressed thinking about some past failures, but I try to think of what I achieved so far to get over it. The professionals might disagree, but I feel getting busy is a good way to distract yourself from these unwanted and unnecessary thoughts and feelings.

Don't take your case for the one and only truth, some people need a professional to talk with but most people just need some time to get better. Anti depression drugs are the last of the last resort though i've seen more people getting destroyed by that shit than saved honestly.
Some ppl in here thinking that depression gets from being unproductive or shit like that, or having too much free time or that u can just move on easily
But depression is bigger than that, it hits all kind of ppl for whatever reason, for some it is just short-term feeling and others really struggle bad with it for years
For me for as long as I can remember I have dealt with depression, happiness seem always temporary and being depressed and hopeless is what is the norm for me, although I know what's the reason behind my depression but I can't really change it. It is not that easy to just move on so you shouldn't tell ppl that if u don't understand their struggles, and I hope for everyone that dealing with depression or any kind of other negative shit that life will treat you better and everything will work for you in the end <3

Saying depression simply comes from chemical imbalances is straight up dangerous. There is ALWAYS a root cause.
Medication might help for acute, severe cases but it shouldn't become a habit to take them regularly.
Mental illnes medication can have severe side effects and the fact that some doctors are handing them out like candy is alarming to say the least.
Medication never permanently healed anyone's mental illness. It doesn't make you truly happy and anyone with a good eye can recognize the typical "psychopharma smile", because it doesn't look genuine at all. It's just like mind-altering drugs.
Even more important than medication is actual therapy. And there are many forms of therapy aside of the "regular" talking therapy.
Each person is an individual so there is no one-size-fits-all solution that works for everyone.
In order to tackle the root cause deep psychology is sometimes necessary.
Quickly ingesting medication without second thoughts will just "fix" symptoms on a surface level but it will never heal your soul.
I am a social shut in and this helped me to prevent further damage caused by society. Mostly society, school, work, bad friends, bad romance got me depressed. Dont misunderstand me. I take walks, go shop, etc, but I do it all alone and during times where less people are around.
Wasted more than half my life with depressions + therapy and it's more annoying than sad :pepetired
I went through this shit by staying in my lane, doing things that I wanna do and trying to find distraction whenever something negative occurs.
Currently I feel a bit depressed because we have guests from another country and we live with 10 people in a house. I am forced to share my toilette, take less wanks, listen to noise and other stuff that stacks up and I cant do shit against it.
I just have to hold out one more week till the guests are gone and I get a part of my piece back.
I guess all you need is busying yourself, without wasting too much time on non-essential things and you need a handful endurance because better times will come in one or another form.
