Character Discussion How would you react if Shanks was truly evil?

#41
I dont buy truly "evil" narrative and never have. Not with his mentality of safeguarding the weak as a Yonko crew. He does intend to achieve peace, but evidently there is a tragic element to that based on who he seems to be (heavy ties to Roger, yet also obviously tied to the WG)

I do buy a very antagonistic role on what he wants to "do" with One Piece (I assume he knows what it is) and the role he has for Luffy. I dont think he's ever intended to be Pirate King and knows that he's not destined for it, but knows Luffy is (clearly he fed the fruit to him on purpose or knew the fruit would "find" him). I believe his brutality in general supports his no nonsense demeanor which is very uncharacteristic of a true "good" person.

If he's actually, truly evil, i personally would dislike it.
He didn't know Luffy would eat the fruit
He never intended it too

He never knew Luffy would be the one
Not even Roger knew Garp's future grand child would be Joyboy

Yes he did. 1054 quite literally shows him attacking a WG ship over a what seems to be only for this fruit:

He knows what the fruit is and the point made about the Model Nika fruit is that it has a mind of its own, i.e. it chooses its user

Shanks isnt even the least bit surprised by Luffy's poster. And considering Luffy has a D. Initial, you dont think Shanks at all understands the concept of D. by that point in the story? He literally is Roger's protege

He quite literally is unsurprised by Luffy's appearance and this whole time, has been confident in him reaching the top
