Tbh I think that's part of the charm. It is supposed to be complicated (although let's be honest, it mostly is because we forget about it after years without new chapter lol).

It's basically showing us how nen would work in real life. Brain racking schemes left and right. A lot of secrets and possible outcomes.
I agree but I feel like we kinda already had that in previous arcs

I know Togashi wanted to kick it up a notch but sometimes it's just a bit too much. The journey to the New Continent pretty much just started and we've already been introduced to 50+ characters. Just imagine how many more will be semi-active players once we get further into the arc

People that are talking about the arc ending in 30-40 chapters are delusional. This arc moving at it's current pace could easily have over 100 chapters left

IiRC Togashi was inspired by Oda's Marineford war but wanted even more characters thrown into an arc.

And yes the expedition arc isn't a small arc. We're definitely not done soon enough. I think Togashi did a mistake by telling us how long the trip will last and how he keeps us updated on each day passing. Because at this point we're getting roughly 5 chapters for each days (we're at day 9 and "departure" was chapter 359). And there are 60 days in total.

Ah that makes sense

That's what I mean! Moving at it's current pace the length of the journey alone could be half of HxH's overall chapter count. I know people are fans of political intrigue and whatnot but I think the placement of the arc coupled with an almost entirely new cast of characters really hurts it.

Dunno if you or anyone here has read World Trigger but it's facing a similar problem right now. No one wants to sit and wait for the arc to end when the main attraction is the DC and the crazy things Togashi could introduce. Nothing wrong with the current arc but if I had to give a decent example it's like getting the appetizer and having to wait ages before you can finally get to the main course.

Lol yeah but I find it hard to believe Nasubi would be that oblivious of his half brothers being that deep in politics. You also have Zhang Lei referring to Onior as his father but look nothing alike.
Zhang Lei looks way more like Onior than Nasubi lol

And i don't think Nasubi minds it. Cause all the princes except a single one is gonna die and be a sacrifice in the succession war ritual anyway.

Chimera Ant is the only other arc with heavy dialogue and it still pales in comparison to the current arc
Maybe that's why this is shaping up to be my favorite arc with Chimera Ant arc right up there lol

edit: btw I'm not saying that a manga must have a crazy amount of dialogue in order to be great (BLAME! is one of my faves and it basically has no dialogue except for a few instances)

I'm just saying it plays into HxH's strengths and Togashi's way of writing an engaging, intricate plot.
If none of the talking mattered and it was just a waste of time I'd be the first to admit so but so far every piece of dialogue has mattered. With some parts we'll only see if there's a payoff once the arc is finished but I trust in Togashi so far he never has disappointed

Whoever is Beyond's child. He/she knows about it otherwise there is no interest for Beyond. This child of his also must have nen, an ability whose very existence was ignored by Zhang Lei and Tubeppa. source: we have inner monologues of them.

Tyson seems to not even care about this succession war and plays game with her nen beast.

Moreover, we should get an idea about who is the child by looking at the moms.

I think that we can take out the children who have no siblings. Because this would be too hard for Beyond to just drop a kid on a women and have it seen as a prince/princess. It's far more likely that Beyond would choose a spouse who is already mother so that his child would be the likeliest to be a prince.

This gives us 4 mother.

-Unma, mother of Tserri and Benjamin. Unlikely to be Benjamin because he's the very first one. Tserri only started training his nen.

-Seiko, mother of Fugetsu and Kacho. Unlikely because they're twins. Which is basically one single child.

-Duazul, mother of Camilla, Tubeppa, Halkeburg and Luzurus. Not Tubeppa or Halkenburg for reasons stated above (they didn't have any nen before). Which leaves Camilla and potentially Luzurus (we don't know about his nen).

-Sevanti, mother of Marayam and Momoze. Momoze being dead. It leaves Marayam.

I believe that the child is among these three -Camilla, Luzurus and Marayam.

And their mother Duazul and Sevanti are the two only mothers that have been characterized for now...

lol I don’t see it, but it would be wild, if we find out, most of his children are from other men. lol

Luzurus gives off the vibes of Saiyu. It’s someone you wouldn’t expect at first glance, but obvious enough when you go back and look. Both Isaac and Beyond has that aloof way about them, where you get the vibe there’s more than meets the eye; luzurus checks that box.

Maybe Togashi isn’t writing walls of text to dive into the psychology of characters but to slow down the illegal scans to be translated in time so that people read the legal and official translation :quest:

All these goddamn 2 years ....

Make me realize how dedicated and consistent oda is. At least he sacrifices his time. 1111+ chapter over 25 torturing years.

I used to hate on One Piece like people are hating HxH right now.

I reread last 30 chapters and this arc is not as bad as people think it is. Sure, it could be concise, at least by 10 chapters.
Huh?

The current arc is actually rated very highly by most people.

Technically speaking , a mangaka shouldn't require that much of heavy dialogue to convey information. Show don't tell also applies to manga to some extent. It can be a turn off.
Sure, but Togashi is trying something new here (kind of a murder-mystery-scheme-arc) and it wouldn't work without inner thoughts and explanations. Zero chance with how nuanced Nen is.

It might not be everyone's cup of tea, bc they enjoy the what I call "fast food approach" (quick read, little text, not having to think much) - that is totally fine.

For people that enjoy reading AND manga art it's perfect.
