Character Discussion I don't like Yamato

There are ways to introduce a character while making them interesting, likeable and sympathetic. Oda missed the mark on every single one of these with Yamato, and the fact that my post bashing her has over 40 likes shows you that a lot of people see through the hot girl gold plating that coats this obnoxious piece of hot garbage character.

If Yamato looked like Denjiro or Shutenmaru, you can bet your ass she would be the most hated character in the series bar none. The only thing people like is her budget Demon Slayer knockoff design and her blow up doll Nami lookalike body and face.

Sorry, DDM, but if we’re using popularity on this forum as a barometer of where the fanbase stands on something, your post isn’t any more indicative of that than this poll from the future crew mates thread is. I’m also getting tired of the generalization that all Yamato fans just find her attractive; I can assure you that liking her design and supporting the myriad arguments for her becoming a Straw Hat are not as directly connected as this makes it out to be, at least not for me, and let’s not even pretend like a wide swath of Carrot supporters are in it for her rich backstory and personality.

Nah, DDM knows her stuff, she’s an incredible writer and articulates her opinions extremely well. You and I both know there are better anti-Yamato dicks to yank, she deserves more respect than that.

You don't have to like Yamato, but it still doesn't change the fact that she's going to join the crew and you're going to be stuck reading chapters that involve her until One Piece ends.

I don't have the experience of interacting with her as much as you do. What ever she has, I'm not interested with her opinions if that's how she'll present it.

You can dislike a character but still believe they will be the next nakama. I think it’s going to be Carrot. Do I like her as a character? Not one bit, but I believe in Oda’s push for that token mink/fishman on the crew because dawn of the world blah blah.

If someone made a post bashing Vivi for example, would that post garner 40+ likes on this site? I doubt. You’ve seen the myriad hate threads for Mihawk and Zoro that pop up and most of the fandom rushes to their defence. The fact that @Bepo’s OP and my post have so much support shows that Yamato is indeed extremely unlikable to a large segment of readers, regardless of how she may change or relate to the crew in future.

All right...if we agree that “dawn of the world blah blah” (not quoting derisively, I agree that this should be our sentiment at this point in the series) is paramount to Oda’s decisions, or that certain characters are inevitable as parallels to others...then tell me that the (yes, annoying; all right, disjointed; true, thus far poorly written) current “embodiment” of a character that pirates, Marines, samurai, Yonko, and the author himself all blow on a constant basis ISN’T gonna slot into the puzzle in exactly the way you described. We don’t have to agree or like it, and the threads will continue until morale improves (it never will), but from what I can tell, the dissent is not as overwhelming as the support.

I understand many arguments of that post or similars. But some things seems contradictory or as overreaction.

1) Yamato are a new character in a arc saturated of characters or situations and is a hard deal to Oda to give devolopment (many chapters in a row) to new character. If oda chooses that path, a majority of fans are going to whining about how Oda dont focus in the battles of the mugiwaras and the alliance.

2) Yamato gag are in purpose to being cringy, just look the face of Momo and Shinobu or Luffy says her that she is not Oden <-- That means two things: Oda is obligated to devolop her (if she gonna be a strawhat) or only is part of japanese humor, and obviusly the detractors have a reason to hate her.

3) People call her a crazy woman with a kid mentality. But that talks a lot of the mental damage of being prisioned for 20 years or the bad relationship with his father, we don't know anything about that (we only know that Kaido beat her so much).

4) People asume a lot of things about her (fans and detractors): Fans asumes that she has a good DF, or she is YC1 , or she is more powerfull than certains Mugiwaras (that not help to convince anyone, quite contrary that makes more haters). And detractors: asumes that the relationship with Oden is mere superficial (is probably that she knows him in person), or she knows everything for the logbook (we don't know that), they asumes that all fans are horny mans who only like her because she has a good design (If they looked beyond these forums, they would realize that there are a lot of girls who love Yamato and they are not simps), i like her a lot because she trust so much in Luffy and the gags -leaving aside the Oden thing- for me are really funny.


5) Dont worry about people that dont like her, the Top 100 talks a lot about how the people like her (especially for Japan, the country
what most matters in sales) . Sorry for my bad english Lol.

It's amazing that people can read and see a panel like this and still continue to be a fan of that character.

The thing is there is rarity when it comes to female characters with good physical strength and yamato fits the profile + she is yonko's daughter.......

For example; Cinera's arguments are pretty good and I accept them but a good part of Yamato supporters are just simps. They write #Yamato4Nakama but their brains only see #Sideboobs4Nakama.

Characters aren't just their sideboobs but it has got to be recognized that they have improved since the first introduction, expecially personality wise. Not necessarily improved on the spot at all, but from what I noticed personally.
