Character Discussion Is Eustass "Captain" Kidd the biggest Chad in One Piece?

if Kidd was mc, one piece wouldn't be the top selling manga. Oda chose Luffy as an MC for a reason, the same reason Luffy remains as popular as ever. Calling Luffy is generic is so laughable lmao when Luffy embodies Freedom which is a major theme of one piece. You only look at surface level qualities. Literally every character in one piece has plot armour, just because Kidd has some tragic past, doesn't mean he has got no plot armour.

The reason One peice and Luffy are so popular is because he's generic. Oda basically mastered the art of serialization by creating a series perfect for it. One Piece is a story about a guy trying to travel around the entire world to find a treasure. By its very nature it is a story that can literally go on forever. However, if you are trying to tell a story that last 20+ years and you are publishing almost every week, you need a protagonist who is generic and likeable.

Kid isn't that. A story with him as the protagonist would look a lot more like berserk, where Kid starts off as an asshole, we learn his backstory to empathize with him, and he ultimately is forced to change. The thing is tho, you can't have 1000+ chapters of berserk.

Honestly, I think Oda created Kid with the very purpose of appealing to that older one piece audience. As a guy who is perpetually unlucky, flawed, and surely won't be pirate king, I feel like Kid can resonate a lot more with the older audience than younger fans.

lmao get your elitist ass from here. The gall to say Luffy is generic when Oda is portraying Kidd is as just another dark seinen hero with tragedy trope. Luffy maybe marketed towards shonen fans but he is equally enjoyed by people of all age groups and he is far from generic. I think there was also a poll done for the age group of one piece fans, If i remember, Most of them were above 18 and have Luffy as their favourite.
