It's using a gun to deal with a mouse, that's the ridiculous part. He's assembling the equivalent of what Whitebeard did to take Ace back, to handle Kidd and his (fairly weak) partner Killer.
You mean like a 1 billion bounty pirate and his crew taking out a 8 million mountain bandit?

He hasn’t assembled it for Kid and Killer. The force was already there, and Shanks is simply using it.

And again, yeah, it’s unfair. But Shanks has never said he would be fighting fair. Maybe if Kid hadn’t started attacking the island and had asked for a one vs one he would have got it.

No, but now he's adding to the force... With world renowned Elbaf Giant Pirate Captains. So he already has a full Yonko's power assembled and decides he needs even more strength for Kidd lol.

And a quick addendum to the OP;

Blackbeard, a New Era Yonko, attacked Kidd's virtual equal Trafalgar Law with only 3 of his officers. And two of them are going to be defeated by Usopp & Chopper, the other being a top 3 subordinate.

I think Oda is making a big statement here about the power of the New Era compared to the old. Someone like Shanks knows he's on limited time and isn't going to take risks, whereas Blackbeard is the up & coming world's strongest and shows no fear.
Killer is that strong.

Because adding to a force is the obvious thing to do when the main aim is to keep the island as safe as possible.

Why should Shanks not use the world renowned pirate captains at his disposal?

You'd imagine he's already got enough power when he has his whole Yonko empire at Elbaf. Against two pirates (that matter anyway), why is he going in so cautiously?

You summ up the things nice and the arguments aren´t bad, but im sure that Shanks not fear Kid.
It would mean the same Shanks who wasn´t even afraid to face Navy+Blackbeard pirates in Marineford, is scared of Kid+Killer troub with is not the case. Shanks respect Kid power and give him his true power out of respect, since he not underestimate Kid.
He is not afraid or scared, he rather act like a general/leader who take the risk of facing a very strong opponent like Kid.
But Shanks is someone who isn´t scared of facing the Navy in MF, he knows the risk and take everything into plan.

They were just coming into town, I'm not sure how it's comparable to stumbling into a bad situation and knowing an enemy is coming and wanting even more back up.
The whole scene is about Shanks not playing fair.

He lets Roo shoot a fodder in the back when he could wipe everyone out there within seconds
Beckman decides to take on the rest and Shanks just sits back and watches.

It’s overwhelming power used against a force much weaker than it, same that’s about to happen here.

Rereading chap. #1076, it stuck out to me just how vast Shanks' forces were on Elbaf. Not only does Shanks have his individual strength + his powerful crew, he also has the allied and subordinate pirates with him as well. Essentially his version of the Grand Fleet.

And also... Very much like what Whitebeard came to Marineford with; The full force of Whitebeard's influence that he used to take on the Navy + Shichibukai.

And on top of having his Grand Fleet and Crew assembled on Elbaf, we find out that this region of Elbaf (if not the entire island) is so infatuated with Shanks that they want to pay him tribute, want to be taken out to see, find him incredibly handsome, etc. His ties to Elbaf go so deep that the world renowned and feared Elbaf Pirate Captains Dorry & Broggy call him a brother... And Shanks personally asked them to assist him in battle.

He's asking the Elbaf Pirates to help him out against Kidd... And if that wasn't bad enough, Shanks is still trying to deescalate the situation by bargaining with Kidd and using his overwhelming military might to intimidate him.

So Shanks has his crew at full power, his grandfleet and the Elbaf Giants all there ready to fight... Kidd and Killer. And he's still not willing to go right to fists, he's doing everything in his power to avoid a fight. Shanks has more power concentrated right now than Whitebeard had running into the War of the Best. Let me just rephrase that again.

Shanks' total strength > Whitebeard Pirates during Marineford and he still doesn't want to fight Kidd.

My only question left is one that Shanks himself has asked...

@Roo @ReggieZoldyck21 @rerere @Pantheos @Peroroncino @Read no Mi @Monkey D Theories @Shiroyru @ShishioIsBack @HA001 OF THE RAIN @Albino 👑 @EtenBoby @Meeyori @Mr. Reloaded @Blackbeard @Erkan12 @Red Admiral
Shanks' fleet is still weaker than WB's fleet, tho. :suresure:

Also, bringing many people to a fight is favored by many pirates. Remember, Shanks doesn't believe in fair play. Having the giants to help him out does not necessarily mean he is afraid of the New Era. That's just Shanks being in character. :jordanmf:

But he already had overwhelming power lol.

Discount his allies, the main crew is overwhelming power. Shanks adding more and more to the forces against just Kidd speaks a lot about either Shanks or Kidd. Maybe both.
