You don't seem to get it. Kaido and Orochi are in this together, they are partners. Orochi is the brains and Kaido is the brawns. Orochi is currently partying with Kaido. If you want to get to Orochi you have to go through Kaido.

it was a mix of him and Luffy so far.
Zoro befriended Yasuie and Hiyori.
Luffy befriended Hyougoro and O-Tama.
both met very early too.
both got close to major players of the arc way before any of the other SHs.
Zoro even got his own mini arc.
he is definitely having a special role currently, but generally, no. its not Zoros arc.
