Character Discussion Is Zoro’s goal real?

let’s hope oden can continue carrying

fr tho it’s a goal yh but it won’t b easy I don’t see him beating mihawk rn if he’s going high diff w lucci the leftover

He abandoned his goal during the time skip. His primary goal right now is to make Luffy the king. Whether he ends up being the WSS as a result isn't important to him.
Lol so delusional helping Lika accomplish his goal is extra burden every strawhat carries on top of pursuing their individual dreams

It's not looking good for the Straw Hat's dreams being accomplished aside from Luffy's, at the end of the day, Zoro is just a side character like Brook or Franky.

Is Zoro’s goal a thing in the story? Like is it a plot point that will be resolved? Will Zoro achieve his goal?
Yes, but I'm not sure it will happen the way we think.

The goals of the strawhats in One Piece are linked to the needs of the characters. In stories, the needs are what the character need to become to be better or feel better.

I don't think that defeating Mihawk only will achieve Zoro's dream and solve his need. It could and it would be cool, but Oda loves to add twists.

What I would do at his place, is make Zoro defeat the greatest swordman... but as a female. We know that Doc Q has the power to transform the gender of people. And Zoro, under this spell, could very well refuse to change his gender. In fact I can picture the scene perfectly:

> Let's say that for some reason... Mihawk is actually defeated.. but NOT by Zoro.. but Shiryu.

> Now, let's say that in the final battle, Zoro is facing Shiryu and - for some reason - Doc Q transforms Zoro into a female.

> Zoro : "What ?! What happened to my body !" - "I can't fight like that!"

> Then follows a number of peripeties along which Zoro needs to avoid the attacks of Shiryu.. Zoro starts to panic

> Shiryu : "You are right to panic ! No woman can beat a man !"

> Zoro .. surprised and Flashback to these moments:

> Shiryu : "You will never be able to beat me in this form"

> Zoro.. calms down

> Zoro : "Shut up"

> Shiryu : "Why don't you try to go back to your old self ! I'll will wait hahaha

> Zoro putting his bandana on (as a female still) : "..."

> Shiryu : "Women are such pathetic creatures, they lack strenght, they lack rapidity, they..

> Zoro, holding the Wado Ichimonji : "One sword style..."

> SLASH, first real strike on Shiryu (or final strike, why not)

I think this would be glorious, and it would bring everything back together. Zoro would literally become the world strongest man AND strongest female with the Sword of Kuina.

Thus completing his grieving process, honoring his friend and accepting finally to let the memory of his Kuina rest in peace.

Mihawk will die for Buggy off screen and that will rob Zoro of his dream and will automatically be the World Strongest Swordsman. And who ever kills Mihawk will die to the marines.

Then Oda will drop "He found something bigger than his own selfish ambition" aka help funny Luffy and then Zoro will only be on screen to fight someone "extra made for him" and has nothing important to any plots just like the usual.

:willight:

What does Shiryu killing Mihawk have to do with Zoro not becoming WSS?
Angry fanboys because I said bitter truth Shiryu might kill Mihawk yesterday.
Another bitter truth deep down nobody expected Zoro begging Mihawk to train him before timeskip, after that Mihawk's role changed from EoS opponent to mentor. Classic writing tells how the student proves he has surpassed the mentor is defeating the guy who defeated his mentor.

That's the whole reason this thread was made in first place.

Again, Zoro's goal is becoming WSS, not defeating Mihawk but defeating whoever the current WSS is when time comes.

Funny, when I created my post just above, I didn't read all the answers. I didn't know other people thought that Mihawk being defeated by Shiryu would be a thing.

It would not be bad at all, if it's done well, I think it would make perfect sence for Zoro to defeat him.

Mihawk trained Zoro birthed the whole theory about Shiryu got Jozu's DF and killed Mihawk.
Although the theory fell apart, the reasoning behind it still works until now

Not that it 100% gonna happen, because Shiryu got nothing except hype by defeating Mihawk.
He can't suddenly change his fighting style by using Yoru, he is used to wielding smaller blade like Raiu.
He gets more benefit targetting someone else with overpowered fruit like gravity.
