Luffy does something in Wano by opening its boarders, Shanks appears and says he bet on Luffy doing exactly that and steals the Road Poneglyph that Kaido had.

Oda ALWAYS measures Luffy's fights in conjuction with what is left in the arc. He ALWAYS wins his battles as the closer, to cap off everything happening. Literally every single time, this is done.Kaido won't go down before nearly every other lingering plotline is dealt with. This will be OPs longest fight, mark my words.
