It’s such a shockingly obvious concept that you may think saying something this glaringly straightforward is unnecessary, but there are somehow people who still don’t get it, so this is indeed a necessary thread.

Pirates embody freedom in One Piece. This is how Oda has always presented them, for the most part, always attempting to impose their own personal methods of freedom upon the rest of the World.

The World Government represents authority, their own mantras on “Justice” define their desire to take people’s freedoms away from them.

Luffy believes the Pirate King is the “most free man on the Sea,” and the World Government are the only faction trying to snuff out such Freedom while every other Pirate is trying to embody this idea, in one way or another.

This is how you write a story, when you know what you’re doing. You start with an idea, and then you explore variations on that idea.

Luffy is a variation of Oda’s own view of what Freedom is. So is Blackbeard. So is Whitebeard. So is Law. So is Doflamingo. So is Kaido.

Pirates in One Piece are meant to embody the idea Living Freely in one way or another, and thus no Pirate in this manga is fit to be the ultimate opposition to the idea of Freedom.

The ultimate opposition to Freedom, within One Piece, is Justice-the idea of taking someone’s freedom away from them. The World Government are the ones attempting to do this on the largest scale imaginable. They are literally trying to bury the legacy of the Pirate King and Pirates along with it.

No Pirate is fit to be the ultimate enemy of this manga, because ideologically they cannot be. Pirates are all about their own views and beliefs surrounding freedom, and the Government is all about destroying that very freedom.

In conclusion, only the ones who embody Justice are fit to be the Final Villains. And on that note,

Fully agree. Luffy’s idea of the pirate king is being free of everything else and everyone’s authority. The only institution actively trying to stop people from being free is the world government.

the introduction of Imu—sama cements them as the final antagonists. There’s no reason to include Imu—sama otherwise lol. You showcase shadowy figures leading the WG already with the Gorosei, his/her presentation only makes sense if they’re the end game.

Id also say the continuing and branching plots from the WG keeps it very relevant. They have their own arch enemies led by Luffy’s father that has yet to be fleshed out lmao.

I agree. Luffy's definition of being Pirate King means being the freest man on the sea

Who's opposing the freedom that Luffy imagines the most? The World Government, the single largest organization in the world. Pretty simple tbh. The Yonko saga is going now and will last until Laugh Tale, whereas the WG saga will begin after that. They are the final villains of the story.

Is Luffy outright admitting that he doesn’t even want to be a “Great Pirate” lol? @Jo_Ndule @Nidai_Kitetsu this manga isn’t about Great Pirates, Luffy doesn’t even want to be a Great Pirate lol.

Luffy has sworn to himself and Tama that by the time he leaves Wano the country is free where anyone can eat as much as they like. Let's face it, Luffy is the Jesus of the story, he's a hero.

If he already wants to liberate a single country from oppression, what would he do for the entire world?

Absolute justice is an ideology highlighted since chapter 96. Oda has to showcase throughout the story that extremists are no good, no matter which side they belong too.
Those are Akainu and Blackbeard, coincidentally two antagonist who have the closest beef with Luffy and are connected to him through golden boy Ace, not mentioning that both were highlighted as the 2 major changes the world went thru during the TS.

All a coincidence right?

Robin made it a point in the last chapters that Luffy doesn't give a shit about the ancient history, poneglyphs or any of that yet he targets Imu the probably OG celestial dragon?

- If there was another D. Dedicating his life to build an organization directly opossing that of the CD........oh and there we have Dragon the father of Luffy, lol, but i guess he gets washed before even entering the spot light by Imu.

Even if you beat the CD you think Akainu gets out of office via majority vote?
Luffy needs destroy the Marines head on and do what WB failed in, so that Sword can reform it into what it originally should've been ( Fujitora's sense of justice).

Theres a reason all these countless are liberated and allied with, with elbaf being next/ last.
So when the final war comes around kuffy will have allies from all over from alabasta to fishman island dressrosa to zou to wano to elbaf etc

Well if this manga isn’t about marines and thus they are below Pirates, then this manga isn’t about Great Pirates either and thus they are also below Pirates.

Just applying your guys’ logic in real time lol
lmfaooo, my logic is sound. Firstly, its a manga about pirates. Thats a general knowledge. Secondly, Oda said himself One Piece is supposed to be a story where Luffy fight yonkos. You guys are again taking a statement out of context, lol.

Thats simply not true. He said it was.
The thing he said recently is the final war will be AFTER luffy finds the one piece.
So no yonko is even making eos.

Its gonna be Shanks the snitch, but we just dont know it yet;)

All jokes aside, I think Shanks ulterior motive will be complicated and make Luffy see his side in a compelling light. I do believe Shanks and Blackbeard are 2 side of a coin that represents freedom through Order and Chaos, Red and Black, both flawed interpretations of how Luffy wants freedom himself.

Shanks is all about stopping the violence, stopping the chaos, whole Blackbeard enables it. I still think they are the final "antogonists" together in a way and will be around even after the WG falls. The story still is about pirates, and both of these characters are still the most important in the series.

@Admiral Lee Hung sorry bro but Akainu ain’t EoS level with Imu around
Not true, and I’ll explain why:

Luffy doesn’t even know who Imu is. A final conflict with Imu would be generic, meaningless, and lacking all emotion and conflict.

Imu is being set up as the enemy of Dragon, not Luffy.

Akainu not only killed the guy who realistically would’ve been the next Pirate King, but was also literally the closest person in the whole World to Luffy. Akainu traumatized Luffy and made Luffy forsake his own dream to be the Pirate King for a minute, something nobody else in One Piece accomplished.

Who is Imu again? He’s probably the head of the Celestial Dragons, which again means Dragon will have a great time wiping the floor with him.

Yeah, but the ending hasnt changed for One Piece. Nevertheless, what makes you think that the story of One Piece has become anything other than "Luffy fighting yonkos"? How is that statement untrue?
Why are you asking that when its answered with the post you quoted ?
This story isnt about luffy just becoming pirate king. Roger did that. Its about overthrowing the 800 year old power the wg. The yonko are side villians

He’s the guy who wants to take Luffy’s freedom away. Which is the crux of why you think the WG will be the antagonists.
