I was thinking about my life earlier. Thinking about my goals and my future.
Sometimes I worry that I’m not going to be able to achieve the things I want. I remember telling myself that oh, I just need to work hard and have faith that my hard work will pay off.
For a second there, I almost wanted to think about one piece. About how Luffy similarly will achieve his goals, despite not being certain that his hard work will pay off.
But then it dawned on me that that’s a shitty comparison because Luffy is the messiah and he was always destined to do what he does because he’s god or something.
And I couldn’t help but realize how much this whole messiah shit cheapens the story.
I don’t think the concept of Nika is inherently bad. I just think it’s dumb that Luffy is unquestionably Nika. It would have been better if Luffy just had the rubber fruit or maybe even hito hito no mi: rubberman if Oda really wanted him to be a zoan. Instead of Nika being tied to Luffy’s fruit, Nika should have just been an ambiguous messiah figure in the one piece lore.
It should be the case that anyone, in theory, could be Nika. Rather than the whole thing being innately tied to Luffy.
