Similar to how Oda went out his way to show that Zoro is NOT the “Monster samurai like Oden”, Oda has again gone out of his way to show Zoro is NOT the parallel to the sword god Ryuma. Luffy is both. Luffy is the parallel to Oden having actually defeated Kaido, and he is the parallel to Ryuma, having saved the land.

And if you are gonna say shit about Zoro looking like Ryuma remember, Momo looks like Oden and yet Luffy is still the parallel to Oden. So…

Oda wanted to parallel zoro with ryuma but didnt want him to get more shine then luffy , so yes the guy who is parelled as great samurai and savior of wano ( oden and ryuma ) is luffy. and ryuma isn't on the same calliber, they literally said rivel by their heroism that both of them defeating a dragon, killing a rendom dragon is not the same as killing kaido and when they leave wano ryuma got no reason to be more relevent other then flashbacks
