Character Discussion Mihawk

#3
Most of zoro's opponents are interesting characters for some reasons, they all have either a lot of character depth or good development

So I don't think mihawk will be an exception
Maybe its just me but zoro opponents are usually strong people where he suffers physically( they usually not intersting characters, just strong ) , for sanji its scumbags that make sanji suffer emotionaly and Mentally( not the best fighting feats. ), while for luffy its both.

Zoro's opponents always have some character depth behind them, like Kaku and king for instance

While sanji's opponents are usually all arrogant psychopaths like Jabra and queen who contrast sanji's ideologies one way or another, Jabra for instance believed that sanji getting angry would only make him weak

The only exceptions to this pattern are bon clay and Mr 1

It's the reason why I think zoro and sanji's final match ups are gonna be fujitora and Greenbull

Fujitora already has a lot of character depth

Greenbull on the other hand has ideologies that contrast sanji's

I disagree. Kaku was an assassin, but a surprisingly down to earth and relatable guy. He's our proof that not everyone on the government side is inherently evil. Daz Bones might not have had much depth, but he was an efficient killer who would take the time to respect his enemy should they best him. And King was a tragic figure who views Kaido as his salvation and becomes a relentless killing machine as recompense for giving him a purpose. Zombie Ryuma was the reanimated corpse of someone who may very well be Zoro's ancestor, and our establishing lore for Wano.

As for Mihawk, we won't know until we get there, but if Oda is willing to give characters like Kaku or King some character and background, why not the more important Mihawk?

What opponents had bad fighting feats for sanji?

In each and every raid style arc sanjis opponents have literally got feats on zoros opponents.
Arlong Parks kurobi

Bon Clay

Jabra

Queen

They each got savage feats before the their fights and 2 of them fought zoros opponents in a clash evenly while looking more impressive

I won't even mention portrayal nor the diff which sanji wins

What is an interesting character for you?

For me, what makes Mihawk interesting is his simplicity, he's a fighter, just a fighter. He is not mysterious like Shanks who is always involved with the most important men in the world, one hour he is talking to Newgate and another to Gorosei.

Mihawk is a fighter, a frustrated fighter. He is a man who found the thrill of living in fighting. He's like someone who plays extreme sports and gets addicted to the adrenaline rush of getting out alive.

Then he got so strong that he didn't find any more fights worthy of making him feel the thrill of being alive.

Shanks appears and becomes his rival and brings that feeling back to him.

But then, saving Luffy, Shanks puts Mihawk back in the harrowing situation of no longer being able to feel the thrill of fighting with all his might. Shanks gave Mihawk hope but was later responsible for taking it away, so we clearly see how Mihawk treats him with contempt for feeling betrayed. He mocks Shanks for not having an arm, in Marineford Mihawk doesn't even look at the man who was once his rival.

Mihawk is going through something similar to Kaido who hasn't fought at all since Oden, but I believe that for MIhawk it's worse because fighting is everything for him. He doesn't aspire to other things like Kaido. That's why his Vivre Card tells us he's looking forward to someone who will surpass Shanks, he wants to be able to fight for real and when he's close to death, feel how good it feels to be alive.

Anyway, I think I stretched too much, but this is Mihawk, I think if you expect anything other than strength you will be frustrated. I even think that bringing him anything beyond that would spoil the character. He is a fighter, a truly amazing swordsman according to the Vivre Card, bringing more information about his life just seems to me that the core of the characters was not well done. When you complete something more and more, it just seems to me that it was poorly designed. And I think Mihawk's strength was masterfully crafted.

Have a good day.
