How good is Moria as a character?

Watching the latest episode reminded me how good Moria is. He was introduced in Thriller Bark with a lazy motto

It was because he had a bad experience of losing his crew while facing Kaido, and thus became obsessed in using zombies instead not to experience the pain of losing his crewmates again

But despite this, he still cared a lot about his mortal subordinates. He cared enough for Absalom he had the balls to infiltrate Blackbeard's territory and challenge him to get Absalom back

And when he thought Absalom was still alive, he felt bad for attacking people

That shows that in reality, Moria is a good guy, who always cared about his people, but due to the traumatism of losing his people, he decided to use zombie armies to avoid the pain of losing his people again

Moria is a very decent character, and i would not have anything against him staying a prominent figure in the future of the series.

People should stop underrating him. He has a hax power and is probably slightly below commanders, YC4 is where i would place him.

His prime is commander level and makes sense that he once could rival young Kaido

I have nothing against Moriah. I don't dislike him but I don't like him much either.

However, caring for your own subordinates doesn't amount to being a good guy per se.

We can say he is good towards his nakamas and can go distance for them but he ain't good guy overall because he stole shadows of countless Innocents forcing them to stay in dark for rest of their lives or die.

He in a way stole their freedom of movement and live their lives. And, we haven't seen any redeeming of Moriah as of now.

I was always loved his DF. Kinda wish someone else had it tho lol.

Seeing Prime Moriah however would be pretty cool. May help me change my opinion.

I kinda think Kaido may give Luffy the Moriah treatment, and kinda break Luffy's will by pretending he killed the SHs. I know that would for sure break Luffy tbh.

Basically average character, nothing bad or good about him. but Oda can give him an extremely important role in the story by making him help Blackbeard to revive old Rocks pirates like Silver Axe or Ochoku like how he did with Captain John.
Of course it depends on what shadow he puts in him.

Perhaps BB decimates the Red haired pirates. And puts Shanks shadow into Xebec:milaugh:

And Rocks himself, but maybe that would be too much.
I think Rocks' body himself was lost after the battle on God Valley. ( probably lost in the deep ocean )

It was said that Captain John had the shadow of some random drunk fodder. but i theorized BB ( using unknown means or via Yami ) possesses the true shadows of the old Rocks Pirates, but he needs their corpses and Moria to complete the revival. that would be a good way to bring them back with their full power.

These were probably Silver Axe and Ouchoku
Could be.

I can see Blackbeard manipulating Moria and promising him to get revenge on Kaido by dethroning him in return for Moria giving him the corpses of the Rocks Pirates.

I really like Moria, he has believable story and it shows us that the pirate career is not a gentle road where the nice guys win in the end.

It shows that there were people who set sails full of dreams and seeking the One piece but they were crushed by stronger ones. As simple as that, they were not strong enough and they were not lucky enough.

It also put a perspective with Luffy story who did/do all the most reckless things possible. He managed to stay safe via extreme luck. Same for his crew.

For me Kid is like that too : he is Luffy without plot armor : he sought fight against strong/too strong guys and he got destroyed (an arm left, jail time in Kaido crew , Killer SMILE, crew really injured etc).

I really like Moria too because he is a really good troll. He trolled Luffy so much in the beginning haha

Gold moments with Moria

I never formed a strong opinion about him either way, but there’s no denying the evidence suggesting he was a top tier at some point - used to be described as on par with Kaido, his DF is multipurpose and extremely debilitating to opponents, and his crew is (was) very well-suited to give him the most powerful zombies around.

Still think he will betray the BBP if he’s forced to join, which should only help endear him to Luffy when the time comes...I can easily see him switching sides if he participates in the Final War as a nice fuck-you to Teach for murdering Absalom, might even be what turns the tide for the good guys.

His design is pretty damn cool, he clearly cares about his past and present nakama, and managed to escape a death sentence from the WG...yeah, all right, he’s a badass :myman:

I really like him with his cool vampire like design, his shadow devil fruit and he has a nice past and is a good representation of what Luffy could have become if he didn't have that much plot armor and luck and most his nakamas.

He's one of my favorite warlords and I suspect that Oda has a soft spot for him, not unlike Buggy (Oda seems to have a real soft spot for characters with goofy designs and personnalities and powers).

I really like this. Both Moria and Crocodile is what Luffy could have become if he failed, and that is why both of them are so interesting villains (but in their own ways). Hopefully Teach doesn't crush Moria and we will see him against Kaido.

No, not really, Luffy got where he is because of his personality, individual strenghth and good natured heart.

Unlike Luffy, Crocodile, Kid and Moriah have bad personality's, combat Iq and lacked Luffy's individual srength which is why they could never get help, or progress.

Sure, but they were still contenders for the pirate king position, and failed on their way to get there - and lost everything (at least Moria, as he genuinly seem to have liked his previous crewmembers). They are both personifications of losing your dream, and everything that goes with it. Both aimed for the top and lost their ambitions.
