Exactly, Kaido's death is simply too big of an event for Zoro to be the one to take the credit for it, it would put him on another level in the eyes of the WG.
Kaido's status and political influence as a yonko takes precedence of him being a dragon or Oden's killer.
We have so many characters other than Zoro who have just as much narrative reason to want to kill Kaido but no one will entertain the possibility of it happening, because that's not how the story goes.
But Zoro fans have convinced themselves that Zoro is already a god and ZKK is basically another way of pushing that agenda further.
After all, if Zoro kills Kaido, and Mihawk is Zoro's objective, that means Mihawk is above all the yonkos clearly.
Like seriously how do people expect Zoro to kill Kaido and still have future antagonists that are being clearly set up for him like Shiryu to be threatening when he can already defeat the WSC and surpass his captain while at it.

I'm not going to argue whether Zoro killing Kaido will happen or not. At this stage, it's better to let things play out.
However, what I will counter is the notion Zoro's desire to kill Kaido was a last minute decision. Zoro spent the first two acts of Wano growing attach to the country. He travelled Wano with Luffy, freeing the citizens from Kaido's forces, saving innocents, and fighting alongside Samurai such as Kiku and Kawamatsu. One in particular was Yasu and the people of Ebisu. He learned that their SMILE plight was a result of Orochi AND Kaido bringing the artificial fruits to the country. Yasu's dying words were to his fellow Samurai to head to Onigashima in order to avenge him.
Zoro was furious when he learned the truth about Ebisu and Yasu's death. Arguably more furious than he has ever been, to the point he is now fighting with a deeper motive. Something he has stated to dislike in the past.
A lot of readers took this to mean he'd go after Orochi, when in reality, defeating Orochi was never Zoro's aim. His aim was to avenge Yasu, and Yasu's last thoughts were to go to Onigashima in order to avenge him. And that is where Kaido resides. Yasu did everything he did in order to liberate Wano. He sacrificed himself for the Alliance, who's main goal is to defeat Kaido. He cannot rest until the one actually controlling Wano is gone.
It was something Oden recognized when he had no choice left but to fight.
Just because Zoro wasn't spouting he wanted Kaido's head before the raid doesn't mean the prior build up wasn't specifically for his fight against Kaido.

Luffy defeating Kaido & Zoro killing him are not mutually exclusive.

Something important to remember about Kaido is his introduction. It is said that Kaido got defeated 7 times, got captured 18 times, but no one was able to kill him, not even himself, and that's very important.
Right now:
Luffy is getting compared to people like Shanks and Roger by Kaido
Zoro is getting compared to legendary samurais like Ushimaru and Ryuuma by the samurai of Wano, specifically Hyogoro and Kawamatsu
At the end of Wano:
Luffy will get acknowledged as a Yonko (or close to it) for defeating one.
Zoro will be acknowledged as a legendary samurai (or close to it) for being able to behead the dragon above the flower capital. Legend of Ryuma 2.0
Luffy will defeat Kaido, but Zoro will execute him (finally someone will be able to do that). Think about how hard it must be to behead Kaido considering the damage Oden and Zoro did to him. Cutting a dragon's head is a legendary feat for a samurai. And he will get a lot of respect from the samurai of Wano because of it. Not just in Wano, the world will hear his name.
Zoro and Luffy will both shine in their own way. Yonko and Legendary Samurai feats.
It can be hard for some people to imagine a scenario where this would work (oh but zoro has no honor, it will take away from luffy, blablabla), but we don't have to think about the how, Oda will find a way and pull it off if that's his will
ZKK has a chance to happen, no matter how small that chance might be, denying the hints just because you hate Zoro makes you a fucking simpleton.
