as someone that watched him when he was still in Michigan State, he was at least tolerable in his first few years while being a role player under Mark Jackson in 2012-13 up to his 1st all-star selection in february 2016 when he started contributing a lot under Steve Kerr
I'd say it started turning around for the worst when he resorted to kicking Steven Adams in the balls in the WCF in 2015-16 when he started to build an ego for himself, and he hasn't really changed since

I've never agreed with the narrative of Dirk 1-manning it, it's just your typical lazy takes to hype up players for "narrative" talk. I think it's virtually impossible to do that, but folks care about big names and all that jazz rather than actual player performances. Even Lebron pre-Miami wasn't 1-manning anything in the East, but majority of these "All-time" discussions are based on accolades and narratives, so things like "Dirk carried nobodies to the finals!! Won a ring with no-all stars and superstars!!!" same for Lebron/Hakeem/etc sounds better and more impactful than the actual reality.
But it's just flatout disrespectful to the team around the superstar. For example, Dallas outside of 4 games in the 2011 run held all their opposing teams to under 100 points, and that had nearly nothing to do with Dirk.

I don't think he's Rodman or even close to him in that era. Rodman was a better defender and a much better rebounder. Dray even now for me wouldn't even be an allstar let alone superstar if you take him out of the GSW system. He might be able to duplicate it with CJ & Dame, but neither of them have the off-ball game that Curry & Klay did at their peaks. In the 80s & 90s where the 3ball isn't prevalent like that, it's really hard to see his game translate to a superstar extent and I can't think of a single team where he would even come remotely close to fulfilling the role he did in this era.

There's no superstar equivalent to him. The closest all-star that I could think of him in the 90s is Anthony Mason. Similar size and all-defense players that could pass and run fastbreaks. Only difference is Mason was more of a post scorer and didn't shoot 3s but he could defend Centers back in the 90s.

He's a better scorer and rebounder but Draymond is a better ballhandler and passer like he probably couldn't do that behind the back layup finish that he did against AD. Defense-wise, Mason played with Patrick Ewing for most of his prime that he really didn't show much of being a defensive anchor like Draymond can although he could probably defend bigs better in the post. Draymond is a better help defender and has more active hands with steals or blocks than Mason was.
