General & Others New Oda interview: "I want to end OP in 3 years!"

#21
In his latest interview Oda came up with a few interesting lines. Aside from the fact the he blatantly admitted that he - and I quote - "made Chopper a mascot character", Oda also once again came up with a timeline on the ending of OP. He said "I know I've been wrong with my estimations in the past, but I really want to end OP in 3 years. That's the plan!"

:okay: :choppawhat:

My question to all of you: Where was the point, when Oda decided "Just fuck it, I will end this shit asap and enjoy real life!"

Can you actually pinpoint that? This would interest me, what are your guesses?

I'll quote myself from another thread:

"Because honestly, if Oda indeed plans to end OP in 3 years like he said, it will go down in history as the biggest letdown ever delivered (at least for a fictional story).

Heck, I can already see the showrunners of GoT celebrating, because their ending would look great in comparison.

3 years equals about 100 chapters with Oda's current output (33-35 chapters per year).

This would mean OP - having all of the actual meat and interesting parts of the story left - would end in about the same amount of chapters that the raid on Onigashima or mere setup arcs like Dressrosa or WCI took, lol."
I give it 5 years

5 years
That will be like mid of 2027

We'll get around 175 chapters and that will be more than enough to conclude it.

Luffy will hardly get 3 more major battle
Same for Zoro

Rest of the SHs will end up with 1 to 2 at max

i think, when he says "end" he just means that the one piece is found and thus the most exciting part is over, the doesn't mean that literally the last chapter comes out. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FYUHN_aWAAANFKT?format=jpg&name=small
Nope. He says the story ends when the One piece is found. There is no war AFTER the the one piece is found

Skimmed through your profile you are quite miserable. If you don’t like Odas way of writing style, pace or story decisions why don’t you just stop reading? I’m not trying to insult you at all but you’re so negative towards this series why bother reading it?
In my opinion One Piece is great and the ending will be awesome, I’m sure of that.
@RedDrifter One piece has been plain shit for years now

the idea that when the one piece is found it will be the final chapter is more deluded than any fan theory like kaido is a poneglyph who ate a oni fruit or whatever. you can't top that.

Nope. When Whitebeard is dying he says two things. “There will be a Great War one day” and “When the one piece is found the world will be turned upside down”

that’s it… He never once says “when the one piece is found, the world will be turned upside down by the Great War that comes afterwards”

Oda in 2019 says the Story ends after the one piece is found. Oda today said the story ends after the one piece is found.

So either your headcanon is stronger than Oda or you are just in denial.

The world will turn upside down AFTER the one piece is found. But that’s it. That “upside down” is the end of the story. The war is not what happens afterwards. It’s the falling action of the entire story that leads to the end

When he says 3 then it's 5 or 6 we have a whole new saga before us

It takes pro 250 for him
@kom5 he said 5 in 2019 and 3 in 2022… he seems pretty consistent to me

when he made Luffy a literal god and defewt the strongest person in verse while still a rookie. When he decided to put big mom in Wano we all should have known it was crunch time.

you are really a clown. i never said anything about a "great war". i did't use the wb quote anywhere in my post. in fact look at this reddit post by me 6 months ago https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/s2bszh i was arguing against the common interpretation of the wb quote before people like you who probably just parrot that deranged artur guy came along. i think they will fight the navy before the one piece is found but there is still stuff to do after that.

Even Lolda is tired of his own bullshit:risitavirus:

I actually believe him this time only because of how the ending of Wano transpired. Obviously it is ultimately up to Shueisha but a three year timeline will mean a lot of important plot lines will be abandoned or one-offed by a single panel or two. Even five years isn't realistic to resolve all the plot lines Oda kept adding, and adding, and adding.

But people think Naruto, AOT and GOT ending was bad? I can confidently say that One Piece will be worse because of the way Oda has lazily planned. Oda thought it was a better idea to have the Straw Hats run for 20 chapters from Ceaser gas than to actual develop and resolve important plot lines.

If the Strawhats were to fight everyone like some people want, with a 2 chapters average per character and way more for Luffy plus people thinking that Law and Lidd are getting fights, we wouldn't have any story until the last chapter, just fight after fight.

Now that Luffy can shoot admirals with moves inferior to his MONKEY GOD, eg: OVER KING KONG GUN, KING KONG GUN, KING COBRA, there's really no need for longbows like WANO, especially when the other characters are easier to defeat when compared to Kaidou, at this point poor LARAMAKIIII is struggling to even try see the FACE of the great pirate MONKEY D. LUFFY.

I am scared for the final arcs, and especially for the final war, after WCI and Wano arcs and this interview doesn't make me more optimistic about it.

During timskip!!! The changes that he made to the strowhats during the timskip were purely fanservice. After Marinford, which single-handedly made one piece the highest sold manga at that time–50+mill copies sold, Oda decided that there was nothing to achieve anymore, he was at the top of the food chain. So he decided to roll on pure fanservice as long as possible, 100 chapters long arcs with less substance than any pre-timskip arc, until people get tired. Now, that the kinetic energy is running out and fanservice isn't enough, Oda speeds up things to leave the sinking ship until it's afloat.

Well that ship will take a long time to sink.

You're not making sense, if he truly wants to milk the series for another 10 years he can. One Piece will most likely still be a top 3 selling manga consistently throughout.

Btw, Wano took 4 years to finish. Like I've said for a while, Elbaf is def not a major arc.

People were obsessed with BM's "unfinished business" in Elbaf :milaugh:

People should accept it and move on
He literally made Luffy peak with G5
Only Teach and Imu are left for Luffy as Villains

Kong & Admirals are losing to Sabo, Kid, Law, Wings

3-5 years left
