You're really overthinking this. People thought Yamato was going to join because of three reasons in particular.
1. Luffy outright stated they were going to join the crew (like with Zoro)
3. Luffy had asked Yamato to join the crew early in the raid (like with Brook)
Wait what lol? When did that happen?

Jinbei‘s role wasn’t an asspull, there was very good reason to think that a helmsman would join the crew since Jaya

There‘s a Luffy counterpart, a Usopp counterpart, a Chopper counterpart, we found out in a databook that Lafitte was a Nami counterpart.

There was some question of whether the epithet meant Burgess would fight Zoro instead, but then the question was why not just make him a fighter like Zoro is, or even a first mate? Why specifically helmsman?

Later on a question of whether helmsman/shipwright was close enough to fight Franky.

Then ID happened and Shiryu came along instead, along with a bunch of other characters to parallel the remaining Strawhats (including a Colossal Battleship for Franky the shipwright).

So again, we go back to looking at the Burgess, wonder why he’s specifically given the role of Helmsman. Jinbei gets invited to join, people go back and see he helmed the ship at ID, he helms his little boat in his cover story, and it makes a lot of sense for the First Son of the Sea, a Fishman, to be the Strawhat helmsman.
The hellsman position wasn't an asspull just Jimbei being that, i will admit he did carry the ship from ID to marine ford ( i jsut re-read that part) but it was as background noise as possible.

Carrot isn't close. Carrot doesn't qualify. Carrot, narratively, NEVER even came across like a candidate, whereas Yamato being a foil of Oden made it come across like they were a certain inclusion in the crew. People saw her dodge Zoro's sword, and one never-repeated gimmick of her liking to be petted on the head, and thought that made her strawhat material. It was and remains delulu.

Also how's Jinbei an asspull? He has a role. He's an exceptionally skilled Helmsman of the crew. If I remember correctly his introductory title card in Wano stated as such. Pointless tangent anyway - can you stay on point please?

I'm not discussing who is and isnt' a good candidate. Objectively, Oda made it clear that Yamato was going to join the crew until Oda fucked with the audience. Now nobody can confidently say for sure what constitutes a candidate anymore. That's my point, with my secondary point being Carrot was never a candidate and those who thought she was do not understand one piece and need to re-read and review the arcs for other Strawhats (best example being Brook on Thriller Bark and Chopper on Drum Island).
I'm not going to open a Carrot v Yamato again to ressurect this dead thread, but what do you mean Yamato objectively was going to join the crew? In the sense that Oda wrote that she said that constantly?

Yeah that's my point, but i think it's more delulu to say Yamato is in a category of her own when you have characters like Momo, Kinemon, Vivi even perhaps Law, which had much more going for them than Yamato. Yamato was an asspull she literally came out of nowhere and the novelty of her saying she wanted to join is what made most people think she's joining, it was all shit writting, but maybe that's jsut your perspective because as far as i rebember, after her initial introduction she was heavely relegated to being near Momo and given some other hints that's she's not joining.

For you that maybe makes her be in a category of her own but for others that's not the case, there's people who consider being the one of the main characters of wano to be a SH candidate, Yamato was not that, Wano was just overbloated with characters to the point people were discussing Tama and Momo joining as aprentices and it made sense, Yamato wasn't special in that aspect. There's other aspect that i can even personally bring up that makes her inferior to other candidates:

1. Her dream was Oden which could imply protecting Wano or setting out to sea (Oda choose the first rather than the latter)
2. She had absolutely 0 crew interactions with the rest crew, which never happens to SH candidates but instead to Rebeca like characters.
3. The arc wasn't even centered around her in any way, it was overbloated with characters and she came at the end.

Even Morj as right as he is called out that Yamato wasn't going to join, because he had his own criteria of SH candidate never asking to join the crew and being initially adversarial to Luffy, only later to want to join the crew. She was written with a horrible bait and switch, that's what makes her diferent, you can blame Oda for not writting properly but all he has to do is continue to be shit writter in that aspect and Yamato will not even be discussed again in the story till the final war.

Oh yeah, how could a character repeatedly claiming she'll join the crew make people think she'll join the crew? That's ridiculous. Clearly we were just delusional :seriously:
Not gonna bother replying to the crap they're spouting at this point. Not just because they are incapable of connecting any dots together. Not because of the weird simultaneous carrot hate-wank thing going on. But because apparently being asked to join the crew and saying they will join the crew isn't a convincing reason to think said person will join the crew and that this somehow reflects badly on the fanbase rather than Oda doing what was effectively a real-time retcon. Absolutely nuts stuff.

I'm literally agreeing that saying she wanted to join is what made peopel think she'll join and that it was Oda shit writting that made this made no sense?

And i said it's delulu to think that makes Yamato on a category of her own

I don't understand this thread sometimes honestly it's like you're reading something else that's not written.

Hey guys, apparently it's hard to understand that when everything that can possibly said to make it look like Yamato was joining the crew, people would expect her to join the crew. Isn't that crazy guys? We're so "delulu" everyone!

Warback knows what will happen. They're a prophet. Listen to Warback and stop thinking for yourselves you "delulu" One Piece fans. Morons all of you! Praise be to our prophet Warback for not falling for blatant statements of fact in the manga! Wow, you must get so much pussy! Teach us how to be prophets like yourself Warback! We aren't worthy!

I knew Yamato wasn’t going to join ever since her introduction, too many things about her were off and screamed bait.
I think this was a cheap way to make readers quickly care about Yamato since she was introduced in the middle and battle part of an already busy arc, by making Yamato look like a potential crewmate readers unconsciously paid more attention to her.
Clearly shitty from Oda’s part

How does that not make her a category of her own? What other character proclaimed multiple times that they will join the strawhats and then didn't?

I intepreted "category of her own" as in meaning above every other candidate. Hence i imeadetly mentioned Momo, Vivi, Kinemon, that was the context i was working under.

I'd be more interested seeing where prophet guy saw Luffy asking Yamato to join

Yes, obviously she was in a whole other league from Momo, Kinemon, and Vivi.

I think he's talking about the flashback where Luffy asked why Yamato wasn't coming with them, but that haplened after she chose to stay behind, so I don't think it's relevant tbh.

I've already stated i think Yamato asking to join is a loose thread that still should be resolved if Oda had any sense, and i got clapback because people told me she wasn't going to join and that's its over.

Now i mention she's not the perfect candidate and i don't think she's superior to every other candidate and i get told i'm calling every one else delusional.

Oh well :few:
I mean, how many times did you use the term "delulu"? No, she wasn't perfect, but you're comparing her to the likes of Kinemon and yes, you're calling anyone who disagrees delusional. Don't start playing the victim.

I literally didn't call everyone delulu, he called me that once for a particular opinion and i repeated the term ONCE for his particular opinion

Just read it, what an insane conversation, he's the one who introduced the term lmao

Hey! Would you like to lengthen our bet of who will be the last crew member of the SHPs to 3 months?

People's opinions are shit, focus on facts.

Fact: Yamato wants to sail with the Straw Hats.
Fact: Luffy and the crew want Yamato to sail with the Straw Hats.
Fact: Yamato wanted to stay behind because she was worried about Wano defending itself without Kaido's presence.

Fact: Yamato Inherited Oden's Will and wants to open Wano's borders.

Yamato: "...Someone else has to carry on Oden's Will! That's why I chose... to open this country to the world!"

Yamato read Oden's journal, she knows about Pluton and opening the country's borders.

In Chapter 1,107, Caribou, who knows of Pluton existing in Wano, met the Blackbeard Pirates, claming he worships Blackbeard. Since Caribou wanted to tell a "Certain Someone" about Pluton, it's highly likely that Blackbeard IS the person Caribou wants to reveal Pluton's location to.

The Borders must be open in order for Pluton to be unleashed, according to Sukiyaki.

All factual evidence shows that Blackbeard will move for Pluton, the Borders will be opened, Yamato will fulfill Oden's Will, and then Yamato will set sail with the Straw Hats.

Have you ever fucked up your first orgasm, and then went and did something else that was really fulfilling to take your mind off it, then got back and had one of the greatest orgasms of your entire life?

That's the Wano arc.

Wano Act 1: Passionate Foreplay
Wano Act 2: Good sex
Wano Act 3: Really passionate foreplay, wild hot sex, then a ruined orgasm.
Egghead: Eat a great lunch and go on a great walk with your dog on a day with wonderful weather, find out that your taxes were mishandled and you're getting an $10,000 from the government sent to you.
Wano Act 4: Ridiculous fucking leading to the best orgasm of your life (ZKK).
Wano Act 5: Post nut clarity the size of Pluton.
