I get it.

I've read my fair share of self inserts from FF.net

But Oden is still something Oda came up with, and for me he's still not the cringiest.
Yeah I read a character that:
1. Everyone loves him for no real reason
2. The story has to be retconned for
3. Is connected to seemingly every major character who all revere him

Just felt like some lame fanfic self insert and Yamato just seemed like an annoying Cosplayer cos playing her OC

Woooww, u really changed bro, nice to that.
But.. but ... I have always said that once we pass the theory limit, Carrot's chances would be gone .. :josad:

I mean, narratively it wouldn't be really hard to make Carrot comes back and have what she needs as she don't need much now, but there is no narrative purpose for that right now so what is done is done.

The closest right now is Vegapunk. If we check my theory:

THE SEVEN PRIMARY RULES
  1. Be alive - Check
  2. Be relevant to the story - Check
  3. Be unique and have a unique ability - Check
  4. Be free from faction duty or independant - Check
  5. Be a friend or a false adversary - Check
  6. Looking and acting toward adventure - Check
  7. Have a moral Pillar - Check
THE TWELVE PILLARS (of the construction of a straw-hat)

  1. The quirks - Check
  2. The fighting skill - Nothing shown but we can expect vegapunk to have some technology that will help him
  3. The antagonistic introduction - Check
  4. The multi layered characterization - Check
  5. The symbolic reach - Check
  6. The Strong character arc - Nothing right now, and I don't think we will have anything of Nakama Value coming from him
  7. The hint of a recrutment - Nothing right now but it can evolve
  8. The hint of 3 driving forces - We have a DESIRE but no NEED and no NAKAMA NEED.
  9. The post - Uncertain but Vegapunk could play the role of the scientist while Franky plays the role of the engineer.
  10. The Shining Nakama Action - Nothing right now.
  11. The Rescue - Luffy is currently doing it so.. Kinda Check
  12. The refusal of the call to adventure - My main problem, there is no refusal.

Actually Vegapunk is a pretty good candidate, but to gain Carrot's status he would need to either:

Refuse to follow Luffy while being pushed to by the story to join
Or
Have a strong character arc that would be related to his path on the sea
Or
Become someone special for Luffy
Or
Be grounded into a role of scientist on the ship
Or
Have a Shining Nakama action (that would ground him into a role of sscientist on the ship)

If Vegapunk shows anyone of this possibilities, I'm officially #VegapunkForNakama everywhere.

Don't try so much logic with Oda.
He does what he wants

Not really. Writers are limited by their own frontiers. Oda just happened to push those very far very early.

But even him can't do what he wants, at least not with good enough explanations. Plus, what I listed are just very basic narrative checkpoints. Those will naturally appear when a strawhat is on the edge of being officialized. For example, the reason the shining Nakama action appears, is because the author (it happens in other manga in other forms) will wants to make the character shine, so they use the most shonen moment to emphasize their importance, Oda is just adding the twist that this ""shonen"" action happens on the ship. Same for the refusal, it has been really clear that Oda is using basic storytelling patterns like the hero's journey in his story, the refusal will therefore be added to add more impact on the moment the character will join.. Etc.

Really, it's really basic, the thing is, very few characters get those treatment and get enough checkpoint to become really good candidate. Carrot, Yamato and Momo were the last ones.

Now with vegapunk, Oda would need a lot more work because this is an extraordinary egotistical character, he will do what he wants even if he has to cope with the ennemy. So it would take a LOT to make him move from "I love science, I will do what I need to fullfil my dream > to > I love science, but I will do everything I have to do see Luffy become the King. (fact here, those objectives may not be so different, as the One Piece may be related to the eternal flame (might actually be the eternal flame itself))

Caribou kidnapped Carrot before they left Wano and she's waiting inside him for her to spit her out so she can join the crew. That's Pot's theory. Would you consider that cope?
