This obsession with power levels is counter productive. If LOKI does join he had one of the most complex and layered back stories imo. Like Yamato's baggage was just dropped on us compared to how this guy went from antagonistic to slightly menacing to potential Nakama.

I completely agree. Yamato felt shoehorned in at the end of Wano, when every other Straw Hat had been organically integrated earlier in their arcs. Wano's biggest issue was introducing major characters late and relying on flashbacks or other characters' hype to force emotional investment. You can even see this whenever a new character shows up in Wano, Luffy immediately loses his shit and dickrides them for things he's seen other characters do in the past, like having his eyes pop out whenever one of Oden's worshipers blinks or swings a sword, despite his own crew doing far more impressive feats on a regular basis, or when that one swordswoman showed up, he keeps blurting about how strong and tall she is and never seeing a woman like her despite OP being filled with far taller and stronger women over the last 30 years. Like ffs Luffy you were on Amazon Lily.
Yamato’s identity crisis didn’t help either—she’s defined more by being an Oden cosplayer than as a person in her own right. And Oden himself was one of the most overhyped and obnoxious characters in the series, to the point he stole the spotlight from Roger in the first major flashback of the Roger pirates, what should've been Roger’s own flashback. It all felt like Oda trying too hard to make us care about this bowl-headed bumfuck who spent five years dancing like a moron for no reason. Yes, we get it Oda, everyone wants to fuck LOden, from Whitebeard to the wife of his dead buddy at the funeral. JFC
