That's just a gag and it's the most superficial part of Nami. She is kind-hearted, at least more than most characters. But hey, everyone has their own opinion.

Carrot is not important enough to be a protagonist. If you remove her from the plot, it wouldn't change anything. Carrot's appearances in Wano are very few. On the other hand, Yamato appears in almost every chapter in at least one page.
