Back to the topic, in your opinion, what makes a character "qualified" to join post-Wano especially if it is a newly introduced character? This is assuming there would be another one...
Qualifications:
- Not cosplaying
- Not retarded
- Unique appearance, not a clone of someone else in crew
- Has good things beside good looking appearance
- Will fill a useful role instead of just another clown
- Powerful, can at least actually KO a Veteran

P.s.
We expect every character can do this, but just in case, can read is a plus.

1. sad past.
2. A story centric arc that makes them the focus.
3. Luffy must affect their life or change their life for the better.
4. Luffy must defeat the main enemy that has hinder the character progress in life.
5. working alongside the strawhats.
6.Outcast
7. motivational drive to get stronger or be better for Luffy and rest of the strawhats in the future.
8.selfless acts to show signs that your good person
9. Luffy defending their honor
10.as well having a dream or goal they hope to achieve towards end of the journey
11. Luffy must be eager in wanted them to be to be member of his team.
12. Luffy has put his trust into that person to do certain task for him that’s very important.

13. The character also has to display their importance in the arc. Without character involvement the arc it would drastically change without them.

No new character post wano. If they’re going to join they’d already be an established character with a well established past, motivation, and character growth.

To get this out of the way first, Oda is 90% not likely to have a newly introduced character join. He's looking to retire in the next 5 or so years and that leaves no time for him to flesh out a new straw hat from the ground up. It'll be the final part of the story for a reason so it should be about concluding threads than starting new ones.

If he does decide to do that, he'd have to go the Yamato route and connect them to important past threads. Make the character feel like they've always been there in the story.

If we end up getting a completely new character to join the SHs post-Wano and post-Yamato, and I think that’s extremely unlikely at this point, I would expect this person to have similarities to Usopp and Franky who were also the third person to have joined in their own respective seas.

I think a scientist would fit into this pattern quite nicely. Possibly a protege of Vegapunk, not Caesar (he’s too evil to join), but a completely new character that has better upstanding morals like the rest of the SHs.

But again, I don't expect there to be any more SHs after Yamato, much less one who's a completely new character.

Yamato's potential in having a back-up/guard/protector sort of role:

Why can't you stop posting Shit-Roles for Yamato???
I mean???
FUCKING PROTECTOR??? WITH ZORO AND SANJI????!!

It's always the same, you can not choose a Rol for Yamato without fucking as you want the actual plot for the crew, and the roles of the members...ANd you don't say Lookout because you've already denigrated enought that role with Carrot, to use it for Yamato XDXD

The core principles:

- Be alive
- Be relevant to the story
- Be unique and or have a unique ability
- Be free from faction duty or independant
- Be a friend or a false adversary
- Looking and acting toward adventure
- Having a moral pillar (ex: Pedro / Belmer / Hiluluk)

That's for the core principles, then you get the more specific ones, those are things that all the strawhats are sharing. The character must have:

- Some sort of quirk even if subtle (to be funny)
- A fighting skill (to survive)
- An antagonistic introduction (it's not a necessity, but almost all the straw had one, the character must be a challenge)
- Multiple level of characterization. (it's important for the character to pass through multiple challenge and hardship as well as funny moment and quirky instants)
- A good level of symbolism behind the characterization (it's important to add depth to the character)
- A strong character arc (the character must be put in front of a strong challenge that will make them make a choice)
- Something that will make us think that the guy/girl will be recruted (can be a strong moment with Luffy, or the way the protagonist is written)
- What I call 3 driving force (Basically, it's one desire (a goal, like wanting to be the best at something), a primal need (this is what will make the character look like a human being (for example it is to be able to go through a grieving process), a the secondary need : this is the need to fight for Luffy, this is primordial as every strawhat must fight for themself AND for Luffy) - This is what negate the need for a backstory as it can be developped in the present.
- A post (One of the most important part of being a strawhat. Without a strong post, there is no place on the Sunny)
- What I call the Shining Nakama action (this is once the character gets to the post, it's the shining action of the character in that post, in other word : it is the moment that ciment the character in that post)
- Finally there is the Rescue. (The character must be saved by Luffy from someone or something)

With that you can easily spot the character with the most potential.

To be fair, no one was going to claim lookout for Yamato anyway. Why do you think people would suggest that?

Because is actually a better and logical role... Rather than Defender/Guardian...
BUt i won't have an issue with him being a Defender or guardian, if there's someone to pretect... Like Tama... Sadly...
I agree it's a better role than guard, but no one would have thought Yamato would have it. I personally think Brewer is a slept on possibility. The fact that she was introduced in the middle of a war means that her role may not be immediately obvious. She's more focused on fighting right now.
