Powers & Abilities Oda dropping the ball with Haki...again

#41
I've said it from the start: Haki has always been a very inconsistent power system, that wasn't really thought through and just seems improvised.

It's really like Oda realized that the logia DFs were too overpowered and that Luffy just had no way to go toe to toe with all of them in a fair fight and then just came up with a second powersystem.

Those things usually tend to create a bit of a mess.

Using one really thought through and consistent powersystem (like Nen in HxH) is way better than coming up with one powersystem and then just bringing up a second additional one, because you realized weaknesses in the first system.

Yep I think Oda should have stay with Mantra, CoC, Breath Of All Thing, and Rukoshiki.

-CoC keeps the same usage
-Mantra keep the same usage
-BOAT is use by everyone and allows you to hit logia by hearing the breath of their element
-Rukoshiki keep the same usage

As it is CoA made Tekkai obsolete and we still don’t know if BOAT is CoA or not.

Armamemt is hardening. The fans have messed it up. Basically, hardening is what Luffy says. It's a pun based on the face that Koka, or hardening, also means Vulcanization—the process of turning Rubber hard and black. No one else says Hardening. Anyone who wants to disprove this can find a single panel in Chap 1 - 1000 and I'll PayPal them $50 because it don't exist.
koka was mentioned in vergos vivre card

Bro i'm like you, the only thing i don't understand in this whole one piece is the COA stuff haha! lots of varieties, explanations, forms ...
I never analyzed the g4 but i'm probably wrong about luffy g4, sorry :suresure:
I really hope he doesn't go down this route with CoC.. I am already hearing noises about Shanks having a third level CoC.

Apparently, there is also a barrier Haki which is another form of CoA which he learnt from Hyogoro. These times I thought he learnt Internal destruction from Hyogoro :catcry:.

So Luffy's G4 is definitely CoA Armament?? cheers for the confirmation.

All this lazy mangaka had to do is create a sound specifically for each haki
a character uses CoO- "some sfx"
a character uses any kind of CoA- "some sfx"

This way there would be no arguments if a character used haki at certain moments.

Haki shit is probably the worst power system in shonen.
He literally made CoA visible by drawing it black

Adding an sfx everytime is impractical

Same why Red Hawk put Doffy onto his knees making him cough blood pre Gamm Knife, while post Gamma Knife, he said that Luffy's Hawk Bazooka to the stomach is just tickling him. Red Roc caught Kaido off guard; he wasn't expecting it will damage him. Against Kong Gun he was prepared, he knew what was coming. Seems usual that not only characters become stronger in their offensive strength, but also are quickly able to endure more.

Also it might be that Kong Gun made Kaido lose blood.

But the main point really is, Kaido was prepared this time. Like Doffy post GK saying that a Hawk Bazooka to the stomach is tickling him, while Red Hawk against a healhy Doffy made much more impact.

I think people over analyze haki. Haki is just a tool. The strength of haki depends on the strength and skill of its users.

All the debates about how the scabbards use or didn't use haki and it's affect on Kaido. All the dissection on if the attacks dealt damage. The simple answer is just that the Scabbards were not strong enough to hurt Kaido. The man said it himself, they ain't Oden.

Some people may need to use penetration haki to deal damage To an enemy. Some may only need hardened haki to hurt an enemy. Again it depends on users strength and skill.

but that's the point...
there's invisible CoA, which you never see.
there's black CoA, which can easily be confused with black clothing or not seen through black clothing.
there's advanced CoA that is like barrier but somehow it's invisible again and never drawn.

tell me, did Kid use haki against Kaido?
If yes, which haki was it and how can you tell?
if no, why is he holding back against Kaido?
^
these are the problems with Oda's drawing haki shit.
It makes character act retarded and readers question their retardation.

a small sfx would certainly fix this problem. Character can use their standards clothing, weapons..yatatata and we would still be able to tell if they used haki in that scene.

But with Zoro usually he does. The question begs, why the fuck wouldn't Zoro use Haki on a Yonko? That is stupid.
Though it is a bit odd zoro didnt.
Zoro is being careful with his haki usage so that Enma doesn't siphon away all his haki. He hasn't fully mastered it yet.

Alternatively, Zoro is temporarily holding the idiot ball and would later on randomly start using hardening again.

You know what? This chapter was a perfect example of how stupid Oda portrays haki

Luffy used Future sight but there was no indication for a reader
A character literally needs to yell for no reason what they did in order for reader to understand if haki was used or not.

Now Luffy every time he uses Future sight has to yell "I saw the future but..."

Embarrassing author....

Well, although I believe that Oda portrays Haki quite good, I do agree that Oda could have drawn this scene with more details - ie. drawing vision of Kaido hitting Luffy, then he dodged it barely which would make Kaido's speed feat even better.

XBC has a lot of these moments in which the MC saw visions of certain attacks - and the moment when a few enemies could still hit him despite the MC seeing the future, it was much more impressive.

Yeah, I agree. Something as simple as a grayish projection of Kaido clubbing Luffy as the future sight and Luffy reacting to it in order to dodge would have been way more attractive to see. It could have helped appreciate Kaido's speed too, for example by drawing the real him moving very, very close to his premonized self.
