Just because it has a downside doesn't mean it isn't good luck since out of all cards the one he pulled was suited for chasing after them, the idea would be that an active reversed card transfers damage to Hawkins and an upright doesn't, in the chase scene even a reversed card wouldn't matter since he had plenty of extra lives so pulling a ''pursuit'' would be fortuitous.

nothing suggests that the cards have an effect on the damage transferring.
